China electric-vehicle makers seek to plug into Gujarat

The city could soon see electric ambulances, police cars and even buses manufactured by Chinese companies. China's electrical vehicle manufacturing industry is exploring investments in Gujarat and also eyeing an industrial park here. 
 
A seven-member delegation from China was in the city for two days to identify a location and seek partners for joint ventures. The delegation visited Tata's Nano plant in Sanand on Thursday.

Government recommends banned pesticides to state farmers

In an irony of sorts, the state agriculture department has recommended the use of several pesticides which are banned globally or across several states in India for its known harmful effects.

Climate change concerns: India can contribute its bit quite easily

A new report co-authored by Nicholas Stern, whose 2006 Review gave flesh to climate change concerns, says that the costs of purposeful climate action over the next 15 years would be minimal, some 5% higher than in a business-as-usual scenario. IFC clears $100 mn loan for ACME Solar Rajasthan Project

International Finance Corp, a member of work bank group, today announced sanctioning of Rs 202.2 cr ($34 million) loan for ACME Solar Energy Pvt Ltd (ASEPL) with a possible syndication of up to Rs388 crore ($66 million) taking the total to Rs 590 cr ($100 million) for its 100 MW solar power project in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan.

UK warns that climate change could trigger violent conflict in India

A British report has warned that climate change could trigger violent conflict in India - similar to the Arab Spring where climate change, drought, water mismanagement and food prices contributed to the outbreak of civil unrest.

Cement which reduces CO2 emission developed

The researchers of Switzerland, India and Cuba have come together to develop limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) which will help reduce carbon dioxide emission (CO2) by almost 30 percent.
 
The research aided by the Swiss government is a new blend which substitutes up to half of the carbon intensive materials traditionally used to make cement.

Private companies pitch for preferential tariff model for green projects

Private renewable energy firms are pitching for switching to the "preferential tariff" route from the current competitive bidding for future green power projects as they feel it is more viable.
 
According to a Power Ministry official, private power generation firms are asking the government to go back to the preferential tariff model for setting up renewable power projects.
 
Preferential Tariff is the tariff fixed by the Appropriate Commission for sale of energy from a generating station using renewable energy sources to a distribution licensee.

Swedish Firm Scania to Help Make City Buses Eco-friendly

Swedish truck giant Scania will set up a biogas factory in Narasapura industrial area of Kolar to turn waste into fuel for buses.
 
According to Swedish Ambassador to India Harald Sandberg, Scania’s biogas factory would demonstrate how a large number of buses in Stockholm run on biogas. “A demo plant in Narasapura will be used to display techniques that we use in Stockholm. A demonstration of how waste can be used to run buses instead of facing landfill problems will be carried out,” said Sandberg.
