AU Financiers (India) gets $25 mn debt funding for MSME finance from IFC

IFC, the investment wing of the World Bank, which has committed an investment of $4.5 billion in India, made its latest investment in a Rajasthan-based non-banking finance company with $25-million debt for onward investment principally into medium and small private units.

Anup Agarwal, serior investment officer of IFC, told Business Line that the non-deposit taking NBFC, AU Financiers (India) Ltd, has got three rounds of equity investment from IFC since 2010.

NDMC draws up plan for rooftop power generation

 Economic Times reported that in line with its project to earn the tag of 'solar city' for the New Delhi area of the national capital, NDMC has now drawn up a detailed plan for rooftop solar energy generation.

Mr Jalaj Shrivastava, chairperson of NDMC, has said that New Delhi Municipal Council has identified 40 buildings in the area under its jurisdiction for installation of rooftop solar panels.

The buildings belong to the civic agency and range from NDMC schools, sub-stations, inquiry offices, hospitals, etc.

Water shortage hits Surat’s 125 textile processing units

 In a meeting held by the Southern Gujarat Textile Processing Association (SGTPA) on Monday, around 125 textile processing units in Pandesara GIDC area in Surat  decided to shut down their units during night and run day shifts only. The decision had come after the unit owners faced water shortage problems. With only one shift running, the textile industry will now face a loss of crores of rupees.

World Trade Organization talks begin on almost $1 trillion green goods

 The United States, China, the European Union and 11 other members of the World Trade Organization have begun negotiations toward a new agreement on almost $1 trillion of environmental goods. 

The negotiations launched Tuesday in Geneva covers 86 percent of the global trade in environmental goods such as solar panels and gas and wind turbines for producing energy, filters and ultraviolet disinfection equipment for wastewater treatment and soot removers and catalytic converters for air pollution control.

German firm Passavant Energy & Environment bags wastewater treatment project in Punjab

Passavant Energy & Environment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Drake & Scull International (DSI) PJSC of Germany, has signed two contracts for a combined value of $28 million (103 million dirhams) for the construction and operation of two wastewater treatment plants in Punjab, the company has said. 

The winning of the new contracts for Amritsar Sewerage Project in Punjab further reinforces the company's growing presence in the subcontinent, and will help to consolidate its position in India, it said.

SDMC orders to cut power, water supply of 39 car workshops

 Car owners of South and West Delhi will soon have to look for service stations outside their area after the south civic body hardened its stand on 39 workshops operating even after they got eviction notices for dumping toxic waste. India's green area grows 5,871 sqkm in 2 years

 India recorded an increase of 5,871 sq km in its forest cover in the past two years with West Bengal contributing over 60% of the total rise in green area. 

Odisha, Kerala, Jharkhand and Bihar were the other states which contributed to this marginal increase. 

Hilly and tribal districts of the country registered an increase in forest cover of 40 sq km and 2,396 sq km, respectively. 

The northeastern states, which account for one-fourth of the country's forest cover, recorded a net decline of 627 sq km in 2013 compared to the assessment of green cover in 2011.

High-level co to assess Goa beaches pollution: Javadekar

 Asserting that Narendra Modi government was committed to "development without destruction", environment minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday said a high-level panel would assess reasons behind pollution in Goa coasts and formulate a redressal plan. 

A high-level committee comprising representatives from "Coast Guard, shipping directorate, National Environment Engineering Research Institute, Pollution Control Board and Goa government will meet this month to assess reasons behind pollution on Goa beaches and prepare a roadmap for its redressal," Javadekar said in Rajya Sabha.

Moser Baer up 5%, Railway to use solar energy at stations

Shares of  Moser Baer India (MBIL) are locked at 5 percent upper circuit at Rs 12.32 on the Bombay Stock Exchange after Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda has said the railway will use station rooftops to harness solar energy.

Moser Baer Solar and Moser Baer Photo Voltaic, the two subsidiaries of MBIL, are involved in solar business globally including India. Company's total capacity at current efficiency levels is of 250MW. The company says its solar panels carry a warranty of 25 years, while some of its optical media products have a life span of 50-200 years.

Government mulls harvesting degraded forests

India's forest cover continues to hold steady at 21 per cent of the country's geographical area despite pressure from increasing population, urbanisation and industrial use, and increased demand for cattle grazing, according to a government survey. 

While total forest cover remains stable, there has been an increase of nearly 3 per cent in open forest area, which has the lowest tree canopy density. The government plans to "harvest forests" in these areas and in degraded forests which are classified as scrub.

India to continue rooftop PV subsidy despite budget cuts

 India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has said it is to continue to subsidise rooftop solar.

The announcement on 26 June is one of the first moves regarding solar energy by the newly elected government of India.

MNRE said it would continue its subsidy scheme for rooftop solar, part of the second phase of India’s JNNSM national solar programme.

Inox Wind awaits nod for IPO

 Wind turbine manufacturer Inox Wind Ltd is looking to raise as much as Rs.1,000 crore by selling shares to the public, director Devansh Jain said, adding the company was awaiting regulatory approvals. Inox Wind plans to double its revenue to Rs.4,000 crore in 2014-15, Jain said.

It has orders to supply equipment that can generate up to 700 MW of wind power, he said, adding it was helping set up a 170 MW wind farm in Maharashtra. The company has a factory in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and plans to invest at least Rs154 crore to expand production capacity.

France to partner India on climate change, proposes 1 bn euro credit line

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius Tuesday called for greater cooperation between France and India to tackle climate change and offered a proposed credit line of 1 billion Euro to enable sutainable urban development.
