Yokogawa Wins Monitoring System Order from Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board in India

 Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that its subsidiary, Yokogawa India Ltd., has received an order from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB)*1 to supply a SCADA*2 system for its Centralized SCADA Monitoring Centre, which will monitor the city’s water distribution network and wastewater facilities. This is Yokogawa’s first order from a water municipality in India, and this project is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Clean energy investment of $ 36 trillion to attract private sector

US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz today said an envisaged spending of $ 36 trillion in clean energy worldwide in the next four decades "should be very attractive for the private sector."

Energy surplus northeast can power rest of India

Power-surplus northeastern India is unable to supply power to the energy-starved states for want of adequate transmission lines, experts in Agartala said.

"The current peak-hour demand of electricity in the seven northeastern states is 2,200 to 2,300 MW (megawatt). Now, the shortage of power during peak hour is around 100 MW but during off-peak-hour it is surplus by over 300 MW," energy expert Sudhindra Kumar Dube said.

National Solar Mission invites investment worth Rs 5000 crore

Even as action is missing in new power project commissioning in the country, investors have pumped in Rs 5,000 crore for developing solar power projects worth 750 mw under the second phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).

Keen to import gas from the U.S. to meet its rising energy needs, India will on Tuesday ask Washington to ease restrictions on sales to countries with which it does not have a free trade agreement (FTA).

Washington has till now allowed conditional export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from five of its projects to nations with which the U.S. does not have a free trade agreement, so-called ‘non-FTA’ countries. India solar: MNRE to support 17500 solar water pumps, 68000 small PV systems

India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has approved INR 299 crore (USD 48 million) to subsidize the installation of 17,500 solar water pumps in the nation to support irrigation for agriculture.

The total project cost is estimated at INR 997 crore (USD 160 million), and is limited to states that are willing to contribute at least 15% of project costs.

Review of subsidy plan for off-grid solar applications

 The government is reviewing the subsidy scheme under its flagship programme aimed at promoting off-grid solar applications such as irrigation pumps, home lights and solar lanterns after its dues to solar equipment makers swelled to 1,000 crore because of unanticipated rise in demand.

Trina Solar guides over 1GW of PV module shipment increase in 2014

 Trina Solar reached PV module shipments in 2013 of approximately 2.58GW, over 1GW above shipment levels achieved in 2012. Due to expected strong demand in 2014, the company guided shipments to increase a further 1GW to between 3.6GW to 3.8GW.

Trina Solar reported full-year net revenue of US$1.77 billion, an increase of 36.9% from US$1.30 billion in 2012. Gross profit was US$218.2 million, an increase of 281.2% from US$57.2 million in the previous year.

Not many recyclers of e-waste in Andhra Pradesh

 Lack of adequate recycling capacity for electronic waste is costing the country several thousands crore of rupees each year.

About 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh, annually generate about 70 per cent of the estimated eight lakh metric tonne of e-waste in the country, but only about three lakh metric tonne is recycled to dispose and recover precious metals like gold, silver and palladium.

India currently has only about 98 registered recyclers, with only two in the state, according to the ministry of environment and forests.

LPG stoves to be rated soon

 The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) are coming out with star-rating for energy-efficient LPG stoves, over the next couple of months.

As of now, airconditioners, refrigerators and other electrical equipment that consume less energy are given star ratings. “The thermal efficiency of LPG stoves is 68 per cent. In the next two months, stoves with higher efficiency will get ratings. Those with 85 per cent efficiency will get five stars,” said A. Janakiraman, additional director, PCRA.

India to have highest growth in energy demand: report

 The growth in energy demand in India would be the highest among all countries by 2030-35, beating even China, says the 2014 energy outlook report issued by British oil giant BP.

“We project that by 2035, India will become increasingly import-dependent, despite increases in non-fossil fuel production,” it said.

Graphene nanoflakes boost solar panel efficiency

 A team of researchers at the University of Cincinnati has found a way of using graphene nanoflakes to make solar-powered panels in lights, calculators and roofs lighter, cheaper, more flexible and more efficient. The study found that efficiency increased threefold by adding graphene, because the material was helping to rapidly transport charges to achieve higher photocurrent.

India Puts Wind Forecasting on Hold on Inaccurate Results

 An Indian rule requiring wind farms to predict output or face fines has been temporarily suspended as the regulator reconsiders the best way to ensure stability of the grid, which suffered the world’s biggest outage in 2012.
