Tonight, the first major step to clean up Delhi's air is to be implemented - the imposition of a 'pollution tax' on trucks entering the capital.A long queue of trucks stretches deep into the Gurgaon side of the road as drivers watch the unusually heavy presence of police with curiosity. But that's where the novelty ends. As per Supreme Court's orders, vehicles that fail to pay the 'green tax' ranging from Rs 700 to Rs 1,300 are supposed to be sent back. But at this border point, none of that is taking place. In fact, toll booth operators candidly admit that... Read more.. Date : Nov 3 Source: Times of India

West Antarctic ice melt could raise seas by 3 metersMelting ice in West Antarctica is a major concern for global sea levels, and a key area may already be unstable enough to unleash three meters of ocean rise, scientists said Monday. The study follows research out last year, led by NASA glaciologist Eric Rignot, warning that ice in the Antarctic had gone into a state of irreversible retreat, that the melting was considered "unstoppable" and could raise sea level by 1.2 meters (four feet). This time, researchers at Germany's Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research pointed to the long-term impacts of the crucial Amundsen... Read more.. Date : Nov 3 Source: Times of India
