Organisations form forum against Yettinaholey project

Various organisations from Dakshina Kannada and Hassan districts opposing the Yettinaholey river diversion project have formed a common platform under the banner ‘forum for protection of Nethravathi river’.

The forum, which took shape on Friday, has chalked out various plans to oppose the project. Though the Government claims that the project is aimed at diverting 24 tmcft of water from Yettinaholey in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district, the forum says it is a project aimed at diverting River Nethravathi. Availon signs 78MW of wind turbine servicing contracts

Availon, a cross-brand provider of wind turbine generator services, has entered into new contracts for the servicing of 48 wind turbine generators at the Husum Wind trade fair.

However, the company has not disclosed the name of the clients but said they come from four different European countries.

The contracts represent an additional 78MW of capacity placed under the care of Availon, the company said.

The turbines involved include Vestas V80 and V90, Gamesa G80 and G58, GE 1.5 and DeWind D6.

Industry welcomes India plans to cut carbon emissions up to 35%

India’s pledge on Friday to reduce has evoked wide appreciation, with some terming this as “aggressive” and “superior” to the ones proposed by the developed nations.

NGT directs UP authorities to stop sand mining

An NGO on Wednesday moved the National Green Tribunal against the rampant illegal sand mining being carried out in Jalaun and Hamirpur districts of Uttar Pradesh, prompting the National Green Tribunal to direct authorities to immediately stop these activities.

A bench headed by Justice U D Salvi issued notices to Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Uttar Pradesh government, state pollution control board and others, seeking their responses by October 14.

The government plans to convert about 1.5 lakh diesel buses run by state transport corporations into electric buses to cut on huge Rs 8 lakh crore crude import bill and check pollution, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said today.

"We have 1.5 lakh buses of state road transport corporations. It is our effort to convert 1.5 lakh diesel buses into electric battery-operated buses which will reduce Rs 8 lakh crore bill on import of crude and petroleum and would also help in making India pollution free," the Road Transport and Highways Minister said.

SECI invites bidding for 50MW PV plant in Kerala

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued an invitation for bidders to develop of a 50MW solar power plant in Kerala.

The tender is for the design, EPC, erection, testing, commissioning and operations and maintenance of the plant over 10 years. The plant will be located at Kasargod Solar park, Ambalathara, Kasargod.

SECI has issued the invitation on behalf of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA).

Railway stations to go green, star-rating system being developed by IGBC

Now Railway Stations in India will go green. In the next six months, the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) will be coming up with a star-rating system for 400 railway stations that have been identified to be redeveloped by the Modi-government.

Neyveli Lignite to set up 4,000 MW of solar plants

Auto CO2 emissions 40% higher than claimed: report

The gap between real-world pollution and industry lab results has grown by more than 30 percent since 2001, said the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), an independent research body with offices worldwide.

Some cars, including mid-range models from Mercedes, BMW and Peugeot, were found to exceed stated emissions levels by 50 percent, the ICCT found.

National climate pledges to curb temperature rises: study

National promises to curb greenhouse gas emissions will help avert the worst levels of global warming by 2100, but more action is needed to keep temperature rises within the 2 degree limit set by governments, a study showed on Monday.

Promises by governments this year to restrain emissions beyond 2020 would limit warming to a rise of 3.5 degrees Celsius (6.3 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial times, it said. That is less than the 4.5 C (8.1F) rise expected if they continued on a current track without curbs.

TN to focus on water bodies conservation

Rainwater harvesting is set to get an upgrade with the State government deciding to start a movement for long-term conservation of drinking water resources in Chennai.

With imports surging, Indian solar manufacturers revive demand for anti-dumping duty

The Indian Solar Manufacturers’ Association has revived its demand for safeguard and anti-dumping duties on imported solar cells and modules. Seven temples in AP to follow green initiatives

The government of the south Indian state Andhra Pradesh has planned to adopt seven major temples that will follow green initiatives.

Earlier this month, the government issued an order that covers Annavaram, Dwaraka Tirumala, Kanaka Durga (Vijayawada), Kanipakam, Simhachalam, Srikalahasti and Srisailam temples in the state.

NLC commissions 10-MW solar project in Tamil Nadu

Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) has commissioned a 10MW solar power project that cost Rs 74.6 crore ($11.248 million) in Tamil Nadu.

The first such venture of the public sector unit, the project is spread over 54 acres and is comprised of 48,000 solar photovoltaic modules. Each module has the capacity to generate 240 watts.
