US commits to ambitious emissions cut by 2025

The US government formally committed itself on Tuesday to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 26 to 28 percent from 2005 levels by 2025, according to media reports.
 
This goal set by US President Barack Obama during his visit to China last November is included in a document that Washington sent to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on Tuesday, White House senior adviser Brian Deese said.
 
The goal will be put on the table at the UN climate conference in Paris later this year.

Solar rooftops need financing, not sops

The subsidy mechanism is seen as highly ineffective due to limited availability of funds. A new rooftop policy based on net metering is on the anvil. The solar industry believes access to finance, not sops, will be key for rooftop installations to take off, as it remains unruffled by the government’s recent proposal to cut subsidy.

First rural waste management plant inaugurated in Sirsa

The first village-level Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) in the district was commissioned at Ghoranwali village today. ADC Sharandeep Kaur Brar inaugurated the facility at the village which is one of the 36 villages of Sirsa where such plants are being set up this year at a cost of Rs 6 crore under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
 
Brar said the water from bathrooms, kitchens and rains would be collected in a tank through channels which would pass through a three- pod system for treatment. The treated water can be used for irrigation and drinking for animals, she said.

City pollution check to be just a click away

People in 10 cities across India will soon be able to track the quality of air they breathe with the click of a button. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a national air quality index at a conference of state environment ministers here on April 6, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Tuesday.
 
Available on the ministry's website after the launch, the colour-coded index indicating air quality will provide a real-time data detailing the level of pollution in a given city.

India Eyes Dollar Power To Cut Solar Tariff

India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has asked all Indian states to come up with their own state level policy and targets, as part of the country’s efforts to increase its solar power installations.

Delhi govt to follow Singapore model of water re-use

Taking a cue from Singapore, Delhi Government is planning an ambitious project to provide recycled water to clusters of 100-200 houses, the supply for which is expected to cost less than development charge for sewage system.

India makes first crude oil purchase for strategic reserve

India has bought the first oil for its strategic petroleum reserve (SPR), trade sources said on Monday, marking the start of a round of purchases by the world's fourth-biggest oil consumer to build up emergency stockpiles. Oil prices have almost halved in the past year due to excess global production, leaving traders looking for any signs of new demand to help absorb the surplus.

China plans to build huge space solar power station

Government to set up bio gas, coal-bed methane filling plants soon

The Commerce and Industry Ministry has given permission to set up 16 bio gas-based and three coal-bed methane-based natural gas filling plants to encourage use of alternative fuel in the country.

Municipalities proposing to issue and list municipal bonds can't indulge in pseudo advertising under the garb of 'promotional or educational' activities at time of raising funds from investors and they will have to follow a strict disclosure regime.

India Said to Mull Lowering Gas Price 10% as Energy Costs Plunge

India will probably cut the price of locally produced natural gas starting next month as global energy costs slump, a government official said. Prices will probably be lowered to $5.02 per million Btu, the official told reporters Thursday in New Delhi, asking not to be identified because of rules. The price is based on the net heat value of gas and will be lower at a gross value, he said, declining to give a specific figure.
