Goldman-Backed Renew Leads Solar Auction Winners in India

ReNew Power Ventures Pvt., a clean-energy developer backed by Goldman Sachs Group (GS) Inc., won the most capacity in a government solar auction in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

ReNew was awarded a license to build a 30-megawatt photovoltaic plant after bidding to sell power at 6,970 rupees ($112) a megawatt-hour, according to S.R. J&K Signs MoU for 7500 MW Solar Power Generation

The Jammu and Kashmir government today signed an MoU with the Ministry for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, for implementation of solar power projects of the capacity of 7,500 MW.

Project to Destroy CFCs Completed

EOS Climate has completed a pioneering project that demonstrated how carbon finance can address remaining inventories of chlorofluorocarbon (CFCs) refrigerants in developing countries. The project destroyed CFC refrigerants from Nepal in conformance with the Climate Action Reserve’s protocol for ozone-depleting emissions.

New process to make bio-aviation fuel cheaper

Based on pilot plant studies of a state-of-the-art process developed by the Indian Institute of Petroleum here, a unit in a refinery is being revamped to yield 40,000 tonnes a year of bio-aviation turbine fuel at competitive rates. It will be blended with fossil jet fuel for running commercial flights.

An international research team has discovered a potentially clean, low-cost way to convert carbon dioxide into methanol, a key ingredient in the production of plastics, adhesives and solvents, and a promising fuel for transportation.

Taqa buys India energy plants in a $1.6 billion dollar deal

A consortium led by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, or Taqa, has agreed to acquire two hydroelectric plants in India with combined capacity to generate 1,391 megawatts.

The enterprise value of the deal is pegged at around $1.6 billion comprising both debt and equity.

Green Tribunal proposes heavy fine for illegal dumping of garbage

Heavy penalty for dumping malba and garbage in open drains and by the roadside in the city could soon become a reality.

The National Green Tribunal on Wednesday asked the civic agencies “why in addition to a meagre fine provided under the Municipal Corporation Act in this regard, the Tribunal should not invoke the “polluter pay principle” and direct payment of much higher costs on throwing garbage, malba (debris)” on roads, in drains and even by the roadside.

Renewable Energy Certificate tradings volumes doubled in February: Indian Energy Exchange

 NEW DELHI: The traded volume of renewable energy certificates more than doubled this month on the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX). 

Prices of these certificates both in solar and non-solar segments, however, remained flat on a month-on-month basis. 

The total traded volume of RECs, during yesterday's session, touched 1,83,923. In January, the same was at 84,472. 

One Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is equivalent to 1 MWh of energy generated from renewable sources. These are used as instruments to help entities meet the Renewable Purchase Obligation set by states. ... Read more..

MPCB proposes tougher sewage treatment norms

PUNE: Stringent and uniform standards for sewage treatment in residential buildings and industries with more than 20,000 sq m built-up area is in the offing.

Five Bangalore companies join hands for solar project

CHENNAI: In an effort to reduce their excessive dependence on grid power, five companies in Bangalore - Infosys, Cognizant, Coke, Philips and Bangalore International Exhibition Center - have come together to set up an aggregate solar power project.

Delays, disputes and elections to slow India solar growth, predict analysts

Analysts have predicted slow growth for India’s solar market this year due to delays in implementing its waning national solar mission.

The national solar mission (JNNSM) in India has a target for 1.1GW to be installed during the fiscal year 2013-14, and an overall target for 20GW by 2022.
