India to award 1 gigawatt solar permits by 2015, boosting planIndia plans to award licences for an additional 1,000 megawatts, or 1 gigawatt, of solar power plants in the next year, about 30% more than originally targeted and equivalent to about half the capacity built so far. The government, however, scaled back its ambitions for an alternative technology called solar-thermal, which uses mirrors to focus sunlight to produce steam for conventional turbines. India plans to set up only 100 megawatts of solar-thermal capacity, down from the 1,080 megawatts targeted in a December 2012 policy document, according to an agreement signed by... Read more.. Could carbon-free EV recharging be on its way? A US and German exampleGerman owners of the 2015 Audi A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid electric vehicle will be able to purchase carbon-free electricity to recharge their vehicles if they so choose. A similar program could eventually find its way to the States. Electric vehicle advocates grow weary of the “long-tailpipe” argument frequently parroted by detractors, as no amount of evidence to the contrary seems to deter the notion that gas-powered vehicles might be almost as clean as electrics. (They’re not.) In Germany, however, buyers of the new Audi A3 e-tron... Read more.. |

India's energy intensity rises 10.5% since FY06India's energy imports have been rising inexorably, amplifying its economy's vulnerability to external shocks, but that was also in good part due to inefficient use of energy, rather than greater demand in the economy. The country's energy consumption rose at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.96% since 2005-06, beating the GDP growth of 8.6% and raising imports of fuels like oil and coal as domestic output growth remained sluggish, a government report showed on Monday. So, efficient use of fuels and energy itself could... Read more.. |
Buried in UN Report: $100 Billion More Needed to Adapt to ‘Global Warming’The United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) latest report estimates it will cost developed nations an additional $100 billion each year to help poorer countries adapt to the devastating effects of “unequivocal” global warming, including food shortages, infrastructure breakdown, and civil violence. But that figure was deleted from the report’s executive summary after industrialized nations, including the United States, objected to the high price tag. (See IPCC Summary.pdf) “The $100 billion figure, though included in the 2,500-page main report, was... Read more.. Date : Apr 2 Source: CNS News

Indian solar installations are forecast to be approximately 1,000 MWIndian solar installations are forecast to be approximately 1,000 mw in 2014, according to Mercom Capital Group, llc, a global clean energy communications and consulting firm. According to Mercom, there are several factors behind the slow solar growth. With a few exceptions, there are no Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) PV projects expected to come online until at least mid-2015. Most CSP projects have stalled, state policies are all over the map, and as we have warned for some time, India is now in a trade dispute with the U.S. in the World Trade Organization (WTO...
