China Ming Yang wind turbines cleared for sale in India

 China Ming Yang Wind Power Group Ltd, which is in partnership with Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group, has got its wind turbine cleared for sales in India.

The Centre for Wind Energy Technology, which vets turbine models for use in India, recently notified the clearance for Ming Yang’s machine, which has a capacity of 1.5 MW and a hub height of 75 metres.

Ming Yang is a partner of Reliance Capital Ltd, an Ambani group company, in Global Wind Power Ltd.

Karnataka to set up agriculture price commission

The agriculture price commission, which proposes to evolve a balanced and integrated price structure for agricultural and horticultural commodities for producers as well as consumers, would be established by next January end. 

If created, the commission would also help establishing a well-organized marketing system for handling agricultural commodities and create adequate market infrastructure to undertake storage, transportation and processing efficiently. TEECL to build transmission network in Punjab, India

 PFC Consulting has awarded a concession to Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd (TEECL) for construction of transmission network in Punjab, India.

The order has been awarded on a build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM) model for a period of 35 years, Press Trust of India reports citing a company statement.

The company emerged as the successful bidder selected through 'tariff based competitive bidding guidelines for transmission services' issued by the Indian Ministry of Power, the statement added.

Microfinance associations to get regulator status

 The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to grant self-regulatory status to associations in the microfinance industry.

These self-regulatory organisations (SROs) will assist the RBI to regulate and monitor microfinance institutions (MFIs, which engage in micro-lending) that have registered themselves as non-banking finance companies (NBFCs).

Currently, there are only two MFI associations: the Micro Finance Institutions Network (MFIN) and Sa-Dhan.

Energy-efficient homes: NHB seeking €100 m from German bank

 National Housing Bank is in talks with German Government bank KFW for a second line of credit to support energy-efficient houses.

This credit line, for €100 million, is in addition to the €50 million already provided by KFW since December 2010.

NHB has already drawn down €30 million from the first line of credit and the balance will be drawn by March 2014, R. V. Verma, Chairman and Managing Director, NHB, told Business Line.

NHB is using this credit to refinance individual home loans for energy-efficient housing units.

IEEE has announced that it has approved the IEEE 1901.2 “Standard for Low-Frequency (less than 500 kHz) Narrowband Power-Line Communications for Smart-Grid Applications.” The achievement has been driven and is sponsored by the Power-Line Communications Standards Committee of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc).

India's Tata Power eyes more purchases in wind and solar push

 India's Tata Power is looking for more acquisitions as part of a $260-million-a-year investment push into renewable energy, following last month's purchase of a wind farm in western Gujarat from AES Corp, a senior official said.

Part of the tea-to-telecoms Tata group, the firm is India's third-largest listed utility by revenue in the Thomson Reuters India Index.

Primarily a thermal power utility, it is targeting rapid expansion in renewables at home and overseas, aiming to add about 150 to 200 megawatts (MW) of wind capacity and 30 to 50 MW of solar power every year.

Mytrah Energy may list business trust on Singapore Exchange

 Independent power producer Mytrah Energy is seeking to raise $400 million to $600 million (Rs 2,500 crore to Rs 3,750 crore) by hiving off its Indian operational assets into a business trust and listing it on the Singapore stock exchange.

The UK-based company hopes to have assets that generate about 600 megawatt of wind power at the time of listing in the next three-four months, said a person with direct knowledge of the development on condition of anonymity.

Greenko Completes 15-Megawatt Wind Farm in India

 Greenko Group Plc (GKO), an Indian renewable-power developer backed by Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, completed a 15-megawatt wind farm in Karnataka state.

The 13 million-pound ($21 million) project will sell its output directly to a technology park near Bangalore under a 10-year contract, the Hyderabad-based developer said today in a statement. It used 1.5-megawatt ReGen Powertech Pvt. turbines.

Increasing cropping frequency offers opportunity to boost food supply

Harvesting existing cropland more frequently could substantially increase global food production without clearing more land for agriculture, according to a new study from the Institute on the Environment (IonE) at the University of Minnesota.

The study, published in Environmental Research Letters, tracked global harvest trends of 177 crops between 1961 and 2011. Aavin to soon go solar to save power

 The undisputed leader in the city’s domestic milk market, Aavin, is taking efforts to go solar to save power at its storage facilities.

Bulk milk coolers of the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation will soon get solar-powered water-heating systems. The hot water will be used to clean the bulk milk coolers that are attached to clusters of milk cooperative societies.

Tenders have been floated for 50 solar heating systems capable of heating 500 litres per day.

Coal on barges marks a milestone in India's inland water trade

 The maiden effort in the country to transport coal via waterways has just started. 

NTPC, India’s largest power producer, would start moving coal on barges from the mouth of the Hooghly river at the Bay of Bengal to Farakka power station in West Bengal from today, Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) assistant director Arvind Kumar told dna. 

The trial run of shipment through the mode under which 3 million tonne of coal would be transported via waterway took place last week.

Bhutan's taxis, govt cars set to make way for electric vehicles

Bhutan has drawn up ambitious plans to replace its taxis and government vehicles with electric cars in a bid to make the national capital Thimpu an electric vehicles hotspot and emerge as a global centre for development of green technology.

India opposed using the Montreal Protocol ozone-protection treaty to restrict powerful greenhouse gases called hydrofluorocarbons, pouring cold water on efforts by the U.S. and the European Union.

Fishes die in Meghalaya river, probe initiated

Several thousand fishes have died in a river near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district since last Saturday following which a probe has been initiated, officials said Thursday.

Dead fishes were first found floating by local anglers on November 16 morning in the Lukha river, which flows into Bangladesh, about 130 km east of here.

Bug that can eat polythene waste

Biologist Bhavanath Jha hopes to declare war on India’s mountains of waste polythene using bacteria plucked from the Arabian Sea that are now growing in a turbid broth in a glass flask on his laboratory table.
