A newly announced partnership between Al Gore’s Generation Investment Management and Ecofys aims to investigate how carbon pricing can contribute to global sustainable economic growth.

Gamesa bags 12 MW solar energy projects in Tamil Nadu

Renewable energy company Gamesa has bagged orders for 12 MW solar energy projects in Tamil Nadu, taking its tally in the solar sector to 60 MW in the country.

"Gamesa would be responsible for engineering and design, supply of inverters, erection and commissioning of the 12 MW photovoltaic solar plans expected to begin operations by first quarter of 2016," the city-based company said in a statement.

18,452 villages to be electrified by March 2017: Piyush Goyal

Government will meet its target of electrifying 18,452 villages by March next year, much ahead of the May 2018 deadline as over a third of the task has been completed already, Power Minister Piyush Goyal said.

"During the last 11 months we have already electrified 6,029 unelectrified villages under our mission of energising 18,452 villages. We will complete the target by March 31, 2017, much ahead of the set deadline of May 2018," Goyal said at Raisina Dialogue, organised by ORF here.

India has been ranked at the 90th place in a list of 126 countries compiled by World Economic Forum (WEF) on the basis of their ability to deliver secure, affordable and sustainable energy, which was topped by Switzerland.

Climate change may kill over 130,000 Indians in 2050

Climate change could kill over 130,000 people in India in 2050 because of changes in diet and bodyweight from reduced crop productivity, according to a study in the British medical journal The Lancet.

The changes could lead to nearly 529,000 extra deaths globally in 2050, as opposed to a future without climate change
in which adequate food availability and consumption could prevent 1.9 million deaths, it predicts.

Inox Wind wins 20 MW power project

Inox Wind Ltd has bagged a 20 MW wind power project, which would be set up at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh. The order has been placed by PTC Energy, a 100 per cent subsidiary of PTC India.
