Maharashtra needs clear policy on grid connectivity to solar power

Maharashtra needs a clear policy on allowing grid connectivity to roof top solar power generators in homes even as the Centre is taking steps to promote and popularise solar power across the country, according to clean energy activists here. Activists of city-based Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA) say that using electricity generated from roof top generators at homes and offices could attract penal action as there is no clear policy on grid connectivity to such sets.

MNRE Releases Guidelines For 1500 MW JNNSM Phase-II Batch-II

The 1000 MW bundling scheme that was introduced under JNNSM Phase-I have been successful in incentivizing setting up of a large number of solar power projects and minimizing the impact of tariff on the distribution companies. The same approach is now proposed for 1500 MW Solar PV projects to be selected under Batch-II of Phase-II of National Solar Mission scheme.

Azure Power to build 1,000 MW solar project in Rajasthan

Azure Power Monday said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan government to develop a 1,000 MW solar power project.
 
The power plant is the largest capacity project won under the ambitious Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission -Phase II (JNNSM) which was launched by the central government in 2010 to generate 20,000 MW of solar power by the end of the 13th Five Year Plan in 2022.

The Rajsthan state government has decided to follow the Madhya Pradesh model of sustainable livelihood by convergence in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). There is a need to create a map of solid waste recycling units in the country, according Almitra H Patel, Member of the Supreme Court Committee for Solid Waste Management in Class 1 Cities in India.

Hydrogen fuel can address India's energy needs: CNR Rao

Renowned scientist and Bharat Ratna awardee Professor CNR Rao said the country should unlock hydrogen as fuel to address the growing energy needs and also tackle greenhouse gas emissions.

India to Fund $158 Million for 1 Gigawatt of Solar Projects

India said it will give as much as 10 billion rupees ($158 million) to state-run companies for building 1 gigawatt of grid-connected, solar-photovoltaic power projects in the next three years.
 
The companies will have to use photovoltaic cells and modules made in India to avail the funding, according to a government statement. The government will do away with statutory clearances for projects located in “remote areas” where land is “inexpensive.”

DDA Approves Proposal for Incentivising Green Buildings

The Delhi Development Authority on Saturday approved a proposal for incentivizing green buildings and formulating regulatory mechanism to monitor construction, operation and maintenance of rainwater harvesting structures of buildings and campuses.

IFC to help CREDAI members develop green buildings

International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, today said it has partnered the realtors' apex body CREDAI to promote development of green buildings in the country.  The MoU was signed in the presence of Minister for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar, IFC said in a statement.

Govt for Rs 1-cr penalty on entities violating Electricity Act

Seeking to make penal provisions more stringent in the power sector, the government has proposed imposing up to Rs 1 crore fine on entities violating norms under the Electricity Act.The proposed penalty limit would be a steep jump as it is just Rs 1 lakh under the existing provision. IBM India To Cut Data Center Emissions 40% With Solar Power

An IBM data center in India plans to cut is greenhouse gas emissions by 40% using solar power and water cooling for air conditioning. The Bengaluru-based data center uses a 50 kW solar photovoltaic system that provides electricity to the data servers.
 
The DC power generated by the solar panels is directly fed to the servers converting it into AC supply. This helps cut power losses by 15%, which, in turn, also cuts GHG emissions. Cold water flowing through the server mainframe takes away the heat generated by its various components.

Excise duty slash proposed for clean fuel vehicles

Giving a push to promote use of alternative and 100% clean fuel in transport, the road transport ministry is proposing for major reduction in excise tax for vehicles using such fuel in the next budget. It wants no excise tax on electric vehicles and those run on other clean fuels, and only 2% for hybrid vehicles.

Germany to provide additional funding for India's green energy corridors

Germany said Saturday it has committed an additional 500 million euros (Rs.3,900 crore) to support India in developing its green energy corridors.According to German embassy here, the funding will be released under the Indo-German bilateral development cooperation.
