MNRE, World Bank review progress of solar parks

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the World Bank have reviewed the progress of the Andhra Pradesh Government plan to set up 2500 mw capacity solar parks in the State. During the meeting, Tarun Kapoor, Joint Secretary, MNRE and representatives of the World Bank and State Energy Department officials participated.

India Power Lines to Get $1.2 Billion German Revamp With KfW

German state-owned bank KfW Group will spend 1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) to refurbish India’s electricity network for carrying more renewable energy from sources such as solar and wind.
 
KfW agreed to loan Power Grid Corp of India Ltd. 500 million euros to build new power lines and signed deals with India’s government for two loans totaling 125 million euros for grid projects in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, it said today in an e-mailed statement. The deals are part of a support package of 1 billion euros, it said.

Indian solar water heater manufacturers get a Chinese jolt

Indian solar water heater manufacturers are in hot water, thanks to their Chinese counterparts. The domestic solar water heater manufacturing industry, valued at about Rs 1,000 crore, is being threatened by cheaper China-made imports, the Solar Thermal Federation of India (STFI) has alleged.
 
According to the STFI, complete solar water heaters imported from China are hampering not only the manufacturing segment but also the product quality being delivered to the end user. Terra Motors unveils electric three-wheeler for India

Japanese electric vehicle (EV) startup Terra Motors today unveiled a three-wheeler to be sold in developing Asian markets as an affordable and environmentally-minded alternative to gas-powered scooters and trikes. Dubbed the R6, Terra Motors’ new three-wheeler can accommodate seven people (six passengers and a driver) and travel 100 kilometers on a single charge.

Renewables are winning out just about everywhere. They now supply over 19% of global primary energy and 22% of global electricity. To clean up air in cities, govt plans biofuel, electric buses

The government is set to come out with policies to introduce clean fuels such as biodiesel, bioethanol and electricity for public transport vehicles and school buses in big cities to tackle air pollution, road transport minister Nitin Gadkari said in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. 
 
Gadkari said his ministry had published a draft notification for allowing vehicles to run on biofuels, which will be finalized in one month. Ministry sources said the final notification will help the introduction of the new and cleaners technologies.

The power ministry has launched a mega advertising campaign saying the country can save 25,000 MW of electricity every year by just being prudent. The first TV commercial of the campaign, with 'Bijli Bachao, Desh Banao' tagline, was unveiled on December 14 to mark the national energy conservation day.

Submit water sample of drains joining Yamuna: NGT to CPCB

The National Green Tribunal today directed Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Delhi Pollution Control Committe (DPCC) to take water samples from drains joining Yamuna at different stretches in NCR, Delhi. A bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar directed CPCB, DPCC, a representative of Environment Ministry and a representative of Delhi Jal Board to take water samples of drains at ten different points of the 22km stretch flowing in NCR, Delhi and prepare a data within one week.

Pollution board proposes recycle of marble slurry to minimize hazards

Notwithstanding the medically established hazards of marble slurry on health and on environment, the Union government is yet to conduct a study on the haphazard disposal of marble slurry in Rajasthan. Environment minister Prakash Javadekar points out that there is no data collected by Indian Council of Medical Research, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) on perils of marble slurry.

Sindicatum in 180MW clean energy expansion in India

Sindicatum Renewable Energy today announced that it has signed two joint venture agreements to acquire 49 per cent stakes in operating co-generation power units totalling 69 MW at two of Rana Sugar Limited (RSL) sugar complexes located in Moradabad and Rampur, both in Uttar Pradesh.

IREDA to raise Rs 1,500 crore via tax-free bonds next fiscal

The government's dedicated green energy financing institution, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) is planning to raise Rs 1,500 crore next fiscal through issuance of tax-free bonds in order to support the Centre's ambitious clean energy targets running into hundreds of gigawatts.

764 industries 'grossly polluting' Ganga: Govt

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has flagged 764 industries as "grossly polluting" river Ganga of which 687 are in Uttar Pradesh alone, the Rajya Sabha was told today.  "As reported by CPCB, the board has inventoried 764 grossly polluting industries discharging their effluents directly into Ganga or through tributaries like river Ramganga and Kali East, of which 687 are in UP," Minister of State for Water Resources Sanwar Lal Jat said in a written reply.

ADB launches low-carbon tech platform for Asia

Electric vehicles sales in India have dismal statistics to show

Every government that comes to power talks about reducing the carbon footprints by increasing the use of electric and hybrid vehicles in India. But none of them have been competent enough to form a stringent policy to support electric vehicle manufacturers.

Alstom T&D India has bagged an order of about Rs 151 crore order from Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd (RRVPNL) to supply a 400/220 kV substation in Bhadla and expand the existing 400/220 kV substation in Bikaner.
