Reliance Power commissions world's largest Solar CSP project in Rajasthan

Anil Ambani-led Reliance Power commissioned its 100-megawatt concentrated solar power (CSP) project at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, on Tuesday. This is the biggest CSP in the world.
 
Built at a cost of Rs 2,100 crore, the project has 25 per cent reserve margin to meet 25-year power purchase agreement obligations.

India Must Spend $250B by 2019 to Meet Its Power Needs

SWACH gets parliamentary committee’s thumbs-up

The parliamentary standing committee for urban development has given a thumbs-up to the SWACH workers’ cooperative for its door-to-door waste collection initiative, which it carries out within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) jurisdiction. Some automakers won’t be able to afford the engineering costs needed to meet the European Union’s 2021 vehicle emissions reduction goal, according to a new report from ISI Automotive, an Austria-based global manufacturer of vehicle safety equipment. Fall in solar prices attributed to scale effect, industry’s maturity

Going by the results of the bids in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, solar prices seem to be stabilising at under Rs. 7 a kWhr, not much higher than the prices of electricity produced with imported coal.
 
The lowest tariff in the Andhra Pradesh bid was Rs. 6 a kWhr (adjusted for the 3 per cent annual hike), by the US company, First Solar. In Karnataka, the best bid was Rs. 6.83 by SunEdison, another US solar major.

 About 2.25 lakh LED bulbs were distributed in the district in the past one month as part of the Demand Side Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) being implemented to save electricity consumption. Raising the authorized share capital of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency

The Cabinet today at the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi gave its approval to raise the authorized share capital of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) from the existing level of Rs.1000 crore to Rs.6000 crore.

Wind energy sector in India expected to attract Rs 20,000 crore of investments

India's sluggish wind energy market is set for a revival following the restoration of a depreciation incentive, which is expected to attract about Rs 20,000 crore of investments next year as companies across sectors add 3,000 MW of capacity powered by this renewable source of energy.

 The 'Hi-Q-LED' project, which was coordinated by Osram Opto Semiconductors and funded by Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), has claimed to have reached a breakthrough in terms of green LED performance. According to them, they were able to mimimise the 'green gap' phenomenon, which is the drop in efficacy in the green spectral range.

Punjab to spend Rs 120 Cr for harvesting rainwater

 Punjab government said it has earmarked Rs 120 Crore on the development of Underground Pipeline System (UGPS), seeking to harvest rainwater to solve various water problems in the state.

Punjab's Agriculture Minister Tota Singh said in a statement that "the funds will be used this fiscal for the project which will harvest rainwater through an UGPS, and that has been used as an alternative for efficient use water resources by developed countries."

Suzlon sets up world’s tallest hybrid wind turbine in Kutch

With this new turbine, the installed wind energy capacity at the Kucth region of Gujarat has gone up to 1,100 MW.

Suzlon Energy, on Thursday, put into operation the world’s tallest hybrid wind generator turbine here. The turbine, it is claimed, will generate 12-15 per cent more energy.

The 120-metre hybrid turbine, inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, had been designed and developed by local engineers.

This tower is taller by 40 metres than conventional wind turbine towers.

Gadkari moots subsidy regime for solar pumps to help farmers irrigate

 Union minister for transport Nitin Gadkari has mooted a proposal before the state government to subsidize the cost of solar-powered agriculture pumps by 90%. This will make the pumps, which are now available for 5 lakh, cost 50,000 to a farmer. Central assistance has already reduced rates of the pumps by 3 lakh, bringing it to 5 lakh. As many as a lakh pumps have been installed under the central subsidy scheme.

Gujarat to tap clean energy for cold storage, desalination

The Gujarat Government plans to tap clean energy – wind and solar power – to set up a cold storage chain for farm products as well as for desalinating sea water to make it potable.
