Prices of renewable energy certificates up 17% in Oct

 

Price of renewable energy certificates grew by 17% in October to Rs 2,700 due to rise in demand. The certificates, commonly knows as green tags across globe, were available at Rs 2,300 apiece in September, India Energy Exchange said. 

Green tags are tradable instruments on the lines of carbon credits. Owners of these certificates can claim to have produced green energy and avoided carbon emissions. The certificates help state distribution utilities that have to buy a portion from renewable projects and to industrial consumers

EDI to teach clean practices to chemical, dye units

 Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI) will teach the dye and chemical industry units in the city to adopt environment friendly ways. After a 32-month-long study, EDI will be teaching clean practices to the owners of the units in a workshop on Monday.

"There are around 600 micro, small and medium enterprise ( MSME) units of dye and chemical industry in Vatva. In order to comply with Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB)'s norms, they joined hands and started a common effluent treatment plant. Internet responsible for just 2 pct of global energy consumption

 

An Indian-origin scientist and his colleague have found that Internet-enabled devices consumed about 2 per cent of global energy usage.

Barath Raghavan, researcher at an International Computer Science Institute, Berkeley, and Justin Ma, at the University of California, estimated that the Internet consumes between 170 and 307 GW.

The pair came up with their total by conducting a rough Internet census,New Scientist repoted.

Suzlon Completes RePower Buyout, May Sell Non-Core Assets To Repay Debt

 

Suzlon has achieved full control of its German subsidiary Repower by acquiring the remaining 5% stake held by minority shareholders that resisted the takeover. The takeover was completed through the squeez-out procedure.

After the squeeze-out, the minority will receive 142.77 euros cash per share for transferring their stock to AE-Rotor Holding BV, a Dutch unit under full Suzlon control.

Suzlon acquired a stake in REpower in May 2007. REpower is a recognized technology leader with a strong presence in Europe. It controls approximately 10% of the German market share.... Read more..

HP’s carbon credit project to be replicated in other states

 After getting the Mid-Himalayan Watershed Development Project registered with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in India to implement the clean development mechanism (CDM) project. Under the project, world’s largest, the World Bank will buy carbon credits from the new forests being developed on degraded lands.

With the granting of approval by the UNFCCC, the state may get an additional annual revenue of Rs 8-10 crore through carbon credits.

India is proactive in dealing with climate change, says Maldives President

Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed on Friday said that India is constantly investing and assisting in climate change at a rate much higher than several other developed nations.

Appreciating Indian policies surrounding climate change, he said that India's contribution has been phenomenal and higher than many other developed countries.

 Researchers are banking on studies in Indian sector of the Southern Ocean to analyse the climatic changes in Indian Peninsula, a scientist has said. 

"There is major exchange of heat and salt between the Indian Ocean and the Southern Ocean. Japan, India to accelerate joint rare earth development

The foreign ministers of Japan and India agreed Saturday at a meeting in Tokyo to accelerate a joint development of rare earth mineral deposits in the South Asian country.
Koichiro Genba and his Indian counterpart S.M. Krishna also confirmed they would move forward stalled talks on a civilian nuclear cooperation pact at a joint news conference after their meeting.

India seeks 3 mln tpa extra LNG from Qatar

India is seeking an extra three million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year from Qatar for its Dahej plant and Dabhol project under long-term contracts, an industry source said on Friday.

Qatar, the world's top LNG exporter, currently supplies 7.5 million tonnes of LNG a year to India under a long term contract.

"We want supplies to begin from 2013 in long-term deals of 20-25 years. Spot and short-term contracts we can manage," the source said on condition of anonymity.

T-Solar Constructs 61MW of Solar Power in India and Peru

 The T-Solar Group, a worldwide solar photovoltaic (PV) power generator, is continuing its international expansion with the construction of a further 61 megawatts (MW) in Peru and India.
