CSIRO Exports SolarGas Technology To India

Australian scientists are exporting a groundbreaking solar technology in an effort to help India achieve energy security.

A new study has found that SolarGas - a discovery from the CSIRO whereby solar power is used to boost the efficiency of natural gas - would provide an alternative for industrial hydrogen production, fuel used in electric turbines, petrochemical applications and to provide cleaner transport fuels.

ADB to give $150 million loan to Petronet

Asian Development Bank (ADB) today said it will provide USD 150 million loan to Petronet LNG Ltd to part finance expansion of its Dahej LNG import terminal in Gujarat. Petronet, the nation's largest importer of gas in its liquid form (liquefied natural gas or LNG), is expanding its 10 million tonne per annum Dahej terminal to 15 million tonnes at an estimated cost of about Rs  2,950 crore by end 2016.

India solar: SECI awards 8.75 MW of rooftop solar PV plants

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has awarded 8.75 MW of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in nine cities to 22 companies, including Tata Power Solar (Mumbai) and Waaree Energies Pvt. Ltd. (Mumbai).

This represents the results of a solicitation through the third phase of SECI's rooftop PV program. Through the third phase, SECI has awarded contracts to build 2 MW of PV plants in Chennai, 1 MW in eight other cities and less than 1 MW in Chandigarh and Gwalior.

Govt shortlists 14 discoms for taking up smart grid pilots

The government on Tuesday said it has shortlisted 14 power distribution utilities for undertaking smart grid pilot projects entailing Rs 200 crore. 

Aimed at benefiting consumers, the smart grid utilises digital technology that allows for 2-way communication between the utility and its customers, as well as monitoring of the transmission lines for efficient use of electricity.

International Finance Corp provides $15 million loan to Parag Milk Foods

Global development finance institution International Finance Corp has provided a $15 million loan to dairy company Parag Milk Foods to expand its milk processing facilities, the private investing arm of the World Bank announced on Wednesday. 

The loan will also be used by the Pune-based venture to enhance dairy farm productivity and boost incomes in rural India, according to a press statement released by IFC.

Nod to e-waste disposal

The finance department has given its nod to guidelines for the disposal of electronic-waste (e-waste) generated in government offices.

A committee on e-waste disposal on April 9 had prepared the guidelines and sent it to the finance department.

 India ranks 41 among 181 countries so far as water stress is concerned and its in the bracket of second high risk nations. The first-ever global water stress rankings by World Resource Institute (WRI) reveals that 37% countries assessed by it experience high to extremely high baseline water stress. World Bank plots India’s path to ambitious 20GW solar target

 The World Bank has talked up the potential of solar energy in India but warned that the country must make a number of changes if it is to hit its own ambitious deployment target of 20GW by 2022.

Solar power system to be installed in Odisha police stations

 Solar power system will soon be installed in police stations in Odisha, where supply of electricity is important for implementation of the much talked about Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS). 

"We have entered into an agreement with state-owned Odisha Renewal Energy Development Agency (OREDA) for installation of solar power system in some police stations," Director of State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), M Akhaya, said.

CII moots public-private model for banana cold chains in TN

Lack of cold storage infrastructure is proving to be a costly miss for the State. The Confederation of Indian Industry has estimated the loss of opportunity at over Rs 2,700 crore.

Government targets to roll out subsidies for electric cars by April 2014

The ministry of heavy industries is targeting to roll out subsidies for electric vehicles - under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan by April of 2014.

The policy unveiled by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh earlier this year was stuck due to the slowdown in the economy.  The GMR Group-operated Delhi International Airport has become the first in Asia to host a mega solar power plant on its premises.

A 2.14 MW solar plant has just been set up and is all set for ribbon-cutting, it is learnt.
