Green bonds the new black in the market as environmental financing surges

Power Ministry sets green energy target for state discoms

State discoms will have to mandatorily draw at least 2.75% of their total power consumption from solar plants in the current fiscal, according to the renewable purchase obligation (RPO) norms laid down by the power ministry.

States will have to increase the share of solar power to 4.75% in 2017-18 and 6.75% in 2018-19, the guidelines said.

SAC looks to expand Materials Sustainability Index

Government collected Rs 3,902 crore Swachh Bharat cess in FY'16

Government has collected Rs 3,901.78 crore last fiscal from the 0.5 per cent Swachh Bharat cess which is imposed on all taxable services.

"The amount of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan cess collected in financial year 2015-16 is Rs 3901.78 crore," Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha today.

Marine carbon sinking rates confirm importance of polar oceans

About the same amount of atmospheric carbon that goes into creating plants on land goes into the bodies of tiny marine plants known as plankton. When these plants die and sink, bacteria feed on their sinking corpses and return their carbon to the seawater. When plankton sink deep enough before being eaten, this carbon is taken out of circulation as a greenhouse gas to remain trapped in the deep ocean for centuries.

Hydro Policy amended in Himachal Pradesh to facilitate power projects

Himachal Pradesh government today announced amendments in Hydro Power Policy 2006 to speed up upcoming hydro power projects in the state. As per the amendment the developer would now submit the proposals to the Deputy Commissioners concerned for obtaining approvals/ No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from different departments including Gram Panchayats.

India’s SECI adding storage to 300MW of solar tenders in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka

Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) will soon tender for utility-scale solar-plus-storage projects in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

India’s first ever large-scale solar-plus-storage tender plans for Andhra Pradesh were revealed back in February, marking a major step into new territory for the country’s utility-scale solar sector, but details were lacking until now.

Indian oil firms plan 1GW solar plant in Madhya Pradesh to power refineries

Indian Oil Corporation and Oil India are planning to set up a 1GW solar energy plant in the state of Madhya Pradesh in order to power their oil refineries, according to a senior figure of the state’s renewable energy agency.

It is premature to discuss timelines but the two Indian firms are working together and the agency is considering a joint venture with them, Manu Srivastava, managing director of Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam, the state's renewables agency, told PV Tech.
