ABB India achieves sales of 1Gw of solar inverters

ABB India on Tuesday became the first company to reach sales with a cumulative capacity of 1 Gw (gigawatt) solar inverters.
 
The company marked the same with the roll out of an order for Tata Power Solar's project for Kiran Energy Solar Power at its manufacturing facility in Nelamangala, about 45 kms from here. ABB India commenced local manufacturing of solar inverters in 2012 and partnered with several customers, the company stated here on Tuesday.

Green clearance for Arunachal hydel projects fast-tracked

Moving to fast-track environment clearance for hydel projects in Arunachal Pradesh, an expert panel of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has shown the green light to a 1200-MW project on the Lohit river and is set to consider for clearance a 3097-MW hydel project in Dibang Valley later this week. But in giving the go-ahead, the ministry appears to have bent its own guidelines.

Emission intensity of GDP to be reduced by 20-25% by 2020

The emission intensity of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will be reduced by 20-25 per cent by 2020 from the 2005 level without reckoning the emissions from agriculture sector, Lok Sabha was informed Tuesday.

First Solar urges sovereign hedge fund for renewable sector

Arizona-based solar power equipment manufacturer and project developer First Solar wants the Government to consider a sovereign hedge fund focused for the renewable energy sector.
 
“The Government should consider a sovereign hedge fund to mitigate the impact of currency fluctuations on the repayment of debt/equity by renewable energy developers,” said Sujoy Ghosh, Country Head of First Solar India.

PTC India Fin Services to focus on renewable energy projects

PTC India Financial Services plans to focus on lending to the renewable energy sector and ensure that the sector accounts for 50 per cent of its total exposure by March 2016, up from the current 38 per cent.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has abundance of one raw material which could be of great utility to the industry — garbage.

Green housing launched in Yamuna e-way zone

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on Monday launched an environment-friendly affordable housing project in Sector 22A for middle- and lower-income groups.
 
Officials said that the 1,900 green homes under the scheme would be ready for possession by 2018. "The multistorey flats will be available to the public through draw of lots. Forms will be available till February 26, 2015," said a YEIDA official. This is the second green housing scheme of the Authority, after it allotted nearly 7,000 flats in Sector 22D.

Maharashtra okays central scheme to distribute solar pumps to farmers

Maharashtra government will implement the central scheme of distributing solar pumps to farmers in the state on pilot basis. The approval to implement the scheme was given in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis here today, wherein sanction is given to distribute 7540 solar pumps as a pilot project, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 445 crore.
 
"The Cabinet decided to allocate five per cent of its share, i.e. Rs 22.25 crore from the Green Energy Fund towards implementation of the same," said an official from the Chief Minister's Office.

E-waste disposal: Entities to register with 2 Kolhapur agencies

The civic body is going to make all commercial and government entities in the city that generate e-waste to register with agencies approved by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) for scientific disposal.
 
According to primary estimates, around 4,000 tonnes of e-waste, comprising unused batteries, electric bulbs, compact fluorescent lamps, computers, telephone handsets, cellphone accessories, batteries, circuit boards and switches, is generated each year. Renewable Energy Ministry has suggested Finance Ministry that solar energy should be included in the priority sector norms of banks.

Maharashtra to target manufacturers, stockists of plastic bags

In bid to check pollution due to use of plastic bags, the Maharashtra state government has decided to target manufacturers and stockists of plastic bags below thickness of 50 microns.
 
Earlier, the Maharashtra state government had imposed a ban under the Environment Protection Act, on manufacture, sale and stocking of plastic bags below 50 microns thickness, Maharashtra Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam said.

A committee of scientists and air quality experts who have developed an air quality index (AQI) for Central Pollution Control Board are in a dilemma about what advisory the government should issue when there is "hazardous or severe" air quality in a city. Twelve smart cities to come up at ports with Rs 50k-crore investment

The government is working on an ambitious plan to build one smart city each at the country's 12 major ports, at an estimated total investment of Rs 50,000 crore, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said. "Each port will construct one smart city. We are trying to do this. Each city will be built with an expenditure of about Rs 3,000-4,000 crore," said the Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping.
