Study: Gas to play major GHG reduction role in near term

While tight carbon constraints could lead to less natural gas being used to generate power in the long run, gas will play a substantial part in the coming decades in enabling substantial near-term carbon emissions reductions, a new Massachusetts Institute of Technology study concluded.

“Much has been said about natural gas as a bridge to a low-carbon future, with little underlying analysis to back up this contention,” said Ernest J. Moniz, director of the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI), which produced the report. “The analysis in this study provides the confirmation: Natural gas... Read more..

The good, bad and the ugly about carbon sequestration

Carbon sequestration is fast gaining popularity as a way to counter global warming. However, its effectiveness and consequences are not yet fully understood. Now, a Niels Bohr Institute researcher is providing an insight into these issues. Large scale use of carbon sequestration could help to avoid extreme global warming that would otherwise occur in the near future unless fossil fuel emissions are reduced significantly.
