UNDP grants Rs 40 lakh for green energy action plan

The Ashden India Collective, a team comprising Ashden awardees from India headed by solar power expert S P Gon Chaudhuri, has received a grant of Rs 40 lakh from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to prepare an action plan for commercial use of renewable energy in five states of the country.

The Ashden Award, awarded by the Ashden trust, is a prestigious award given for the promotion and use of sustainable energy. It is popularly known as the "Green Oscars". Gon Chaudhuri had received the award in 2003.

Tamil Nadu power regulator tweaks solar roadmap

 The Tamil Nadu State Electricity Regulatory Commission, the state's power regulator, has come up with a reworked solar power roadmap, one that puts the onus on the state utility to meet mandatory targets, after the original plan that put that burden on high-tension customers was set aside a few weeks back by an appeals body.

India to ask World Bank for USD 500 million for first phase of 4 GW solar PV

India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has initiated the process to ask the World Bank (Washington D.C.) for a USD 500 million loan to be used to support the first 750 MW of a massive solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the state of Rajasthan.

Six state-owned companies signed a memorandum of understanding in late January 2014 to build the plant on land bordering the Sambhar salt lake near Jaipur. When all 4 GW of the plant is complete it will cover 93 square kilometers, as the largest PV plant in the world.

BEE to offer Rs 350 cr for promoting energy efficient fans

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) will provide Rs 350-crore incentive to the manufactures of high energy efficient fans in the country.

The BEE was created under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act.The nodal agency is encouraging the manufacturers of 35 watt fans against the makers of normal 70 watt products."We are working on promoting energy efficient fans in the country and we have a budget of Rs 350 crore to promote it," BEE Director General Ajay Mathur told PTI... India, US agree to hold energy dialogue

 India and the US have agreed to hold their crucial energy dialogue next month in what is the first real sign that all may finally be well between the two countries after ties were sent for a toss by the arrest and humiliation of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade.

Investment in renewable energy sector

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has set a target of capacity addition of 29,800 MW from renewable energy sources during 12th Plan Period. The target comprises of 15,000 MW from wind, 10,000 MW from solar, 2,100 MW from small hydro and 2,700 MW bio-power.

The Government is giving various fiscal and financial incentives, such as capital/interest subsidy, generation based incentive, accelerated depreciation, concessional excise and custom duties for the promotion of renewable energy sources in the country.

China to enter India's solar-powered vehicle market

A China-based solar-powered scooter and car maker is eyeing the Indian market by showcasing its products at an auto exhibition here this week, a company official said Tuesday.
 
“We are going to participate in the India auto fair for the first time,” Guangzhou Jcar Industrial Company Ltd’s marketing head Monica Leung told IANS.
