MPCB issues notices to 2 industrial units for flouting green norms

 
The Maharashtra pollution control board (MPCB) recently issued notices to two industrial units situated in Waluj for violating environment norms. While closure notice was served to Varroc Engineering Pvt. Ltd. for dumping hazardous waste into the sewage treatment plant without treating, Sterlite Technologies Ltd. Was also pulled up and served notice for flouting green norms.

Wind power to light up Marine Drive walkway

Look, who's tilting at windmills? Well, bitten by the alternative energy bug, the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has decided to harness wind power, of all places, at Marine Drive! The development authority is planning to tap wind energy for power lighting systems at the Marine Drive walkway. AP to offer 20% extra subsidy to solar units

Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to offer 20 per cent subsidy in addition to the 30 per cent subsidy offered by the Union Government for solar units. According to a statement from the Energy Conservation Mission, the additional subsidy will come through budgetary support. Households can sell extra solar power to the grid at pool cost.

The State Government is planning to conduct a solar exhibition in coordination with industry and trade bodies, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Electrolux to launch water purifiers in India by June

Consumer durables firm Electrolux today said it will enter the Indian water purifier market by June this year with the launch of its premium RO solutions.

Coal Tax To Fund India’s 750 MW Solar Power Capacity Addition Plan In 2013

The Indian government is set to repose millions of dollars in financial support for solar power project developers from the coal tax corpus it has accumulated over the last few years. Project developers looking to set up projects under the second phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission will receive financial assistance over capital cost expenditure.

Suzlon in Talks to Repay Investors After Dollar Bond Default

Suzlon Energy Ltd. (SUEL), the world’s fifth-biggest wind-turbine maker, is in talks to repay investors after default22222ing on $209 million of U.S. dollar-denominated convertible bonds in October, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Extend subsidies to 3 KWh solar units: NREDCAP

The New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of A.P. (NREDCAP) has urged the State Government to extend subsidies to 3 Kilowatt Hour (KWh) capacity from the present 1 KWh for grid-connected roof-top solar energy harnessing units.

Revealing this at the inaugural of a six-day Solar Power Professional Workshop here on Monday, NREDCAP Managing Director M. Kamalakar Babu said the move was expected to motivate more people to go for solar power generation.

P2 runs with Indian hydro

P2 Solar of Vancouver has acquired development rights for a 700kW hydro-electric project in Punjab, India, and is assessing the viability of a 10MW PV scheme at the site.

Company subsidiary Jagat Energy Private will develop the project and is planning to kick off construction this summer.

The scheme will see a hydro facility built in a minor canal diversion and there is the possibility of installing a solar plant on the free space above.

VMC revives A2Z ties for solid waste mgmt

Gurgaon-based private group A2Z is being roped in once again to manage solid waste from 90 wards of the city. However, the group would have to complete pending work in the Karsada plant before the deal is finalized. The group had already completed 75% of the work in the plant before it fell out with Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) in August 2012.

India to stand firm against EU emissions fines

 India will toughen its stand against a potential European Union (EU) move to penalize airlines based in the country for not submitting emissions data, according to two government officials familiar with the matter.

The European Commission said on Friday two Indian and eight Chinese airlines face fines totalling €2.4 million ($3.1 million) for not paying for their greenhouse gas emissions on flights within the bloc.

India worried over WTO's verdict on Ontario solar case

The World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) recent ruling against Ontario’s domestic content requirements for renewable energy projects is setback for India, which is defending a similar case filed against it by the US.

Despite poor pace of capacity addition in the states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra , India retained its position in top five world wind energy markets in 2012 . India remained third largest market for new turbines in 2012 with capacity addition of 2441 mw, revealed World Wind Energy Report 2012. World's wind turbine capacity addition grew at 19% to 44,609 mw, which is lowest in more than a decade.

'Imposing solar power obligation is an indirect tariff hike'

Enforcement of solar power obligation was “equivalent to tariff increase’’ without seeking consumers’ views and should be enforced only after a public hearing, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers’ Association (TECA) has contended.

An inter-ministerial panel on disinvestment is scheduled to meet on Monday to consider an 11.36 per cent stake sale in National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), which could fetch government around Rs. 2,400 crore.

The meeting to decide about disinvestment of hydel-power generation company NHPC will be held on Monday, official sources said.

Maharashtra generates highest amount of hazardous waste

India generates 7.9 million tonnes of hazardous waste every year with the highest amount generated by Maharashtra, the environment ministry said Friday.

As per the information furnished by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Maharashtra (22.84 percent), Gujarat (22.68 percent) and Andhra Pradesh (13.75 percent) are the top three hazardous waste generating states in the country followed by Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

These seven states together are generating about 82 percent of the country's total hazardous wastes.

US clears shale gas export to India

Opening up the prospects of export of shale gas to energy-starved India, the U.S. has granted conditional authorisation to export domestically-produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries that do not have a free trade agreement (FTA) with it.
