Garbage pile touches 4900 tonnes/dayThe city's garbage generation has increased by an astonishing 400 tonnes per day. Chennai now produces 4,900 tonnes of garbage daily, up from 4,500 tonnes per day five months ago, making it the country's fourth largest producer of waste in the country.
The city has overtaken Kolkata, notorious for its garbage, pushing the West Bengal capital to fifth place.
