India scouting for sites to store nuclear wasteIn a first initiative of its kind, India has begun scouting for deep underground sites to store for several decades the nuclear waste generated from its burgeoning atomic power programme. Waste woes linger onIn the last five years, the BMC has spent over Rs 700 crore on solid waste management, but little has changed. The civic body spends about Rs 300 crore a year on garbage collection and disposal, but complaints are rampant. There are 5,800 garbage bins across 3,700 collection spots in the city and 1,100 vehicles to collect and transport about 6,500 tons of waste generated to dumping grounds every day. Hydropower major SJVNL forays into wind powerAfter testing the waters, the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL) which owns and operates India's largest hydropower project in Himachal Pradesh has now decided to venture into wind energy.
