Reliance, Tatas In Race For Solar Photovoltaic Projects

Anil Ambani Reliance Group, Lanco, Moser Baer and the Tatas, among 150 companies, showed interest in developing large solar photovoltaic projects of up to 20 MW. Others in the race include Gail (India) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., reports said.

The request for selection (RFS) were received for 218 solar PV projects for over 2,500 MW capacity, much higher than the capacity offered - 350 MW, official sources reportedly said.

Carbon tax cannot be addl source of climate finance: Pranab Mukherjee

 India on Saturday strongly opposed imposition of carbon tax as an additional source of funding to fight climate change.

"India believes that some of the measures like carbon export optimisation tax and levy on CDM/offsets violate the principles of the Convention (UNFCCC) as their incidence falls entirely on developing countries and these cannot be recognised as a source of new and additional finance for climate change," Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said here.

AEG Power Solutions and Electrotherm end solar businesses joint venture on poor demand

Amsterdam-based AEG Power Solutions and power systems maker Electrotherm have decided to terminate their agreement to combine their solar businesses in India, citing poor demand.

The two companies, which parted ways a few months ago, had said that they planned to set up 100 mw capacity in three years. Their first installation of 15mw was due to come up by December 20101 and another 30mw at beginning of this year in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Moser Baer plans 200 Mw solar capacity in India by next year

 Moser Baer Clean Energy Limited (MBCEL) solar power generation arm of Moser Baer Projects Pvt Ltd (MBPPL) is looking to set up 200 megawatt (Mw) solar power capacities in India in next one year with 95 Mw to be set up in Gujarat.

MBPPL has laid out ambitious plans to make heavy investments in clean energy vertical of its operations as it intends to set up nearly 1500 Mw of solar power generation capacities in India by 2015.

India, Vietnam sign deal to deepen energy cooperation

 Ignoring Chinese objections to India-Vietnamese energy cooperation in the disputed South China Sea, India and Vietnam on Wednesday signed a pact to expand their partnership in oil and gas exploration, refining, transportation and supply.

The pact was one of the six signed in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and visiting Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang in New Delhi.

J&K to witness shortage of 200 MW of power supply

The Jammu and Kashmir government today said there will be shortage of 200 megawatts of power supply to the state over the next few days due to a fall in thermal and hydel power generation in northern India.

"Due to less generation from thermal and hydel power houses in northern India, there will be a shortage of 150 to 200 MW in the power schedule of Jammu and Kashmir for the next few days," an official of the Electrical Power Development Department said today.

He further said that power supply in Jammu province is likely to be disturbed as result.

Helpline to promote solar water heaters launched

 The ministry of new and renewable energy has started a voice-activated national helpline to raise awareness about solar water heaters, the technology used and answer questions from consumers.

The initiative is part of the UNDP/Global Environment Facility Global Solar Water Heating Project ( GSWHP).

Shinde calls for thrust in hydro, solar energy to tide over coal shortage

 Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Wednesday said India must develop its hydroelectric, thermal and alternative sources of energy in response to a growing coal shortage.

Shinde told a FICCI conference on power that he expected the mineral, which generates 65 per cent of India’s electricity, to generate the majority of power capacity added over the next five years. A lack of domestic supply of the mineral is making the country more dependent on imports, he said.

AEG Power sets up first unit at Bangalore to make solar inverters

 Power electronics systems maker, AEG Power Solutions India Pvt Ltd, has set up its first manufacturing facility in India at an investment of Rs 100 crore.

The company, at its plant near Bangalore, will manufacture solar inverters at the unit and has the capacity to manufacture 400 MW of solar inverters.

AEG will manufacture inverters of 250 MW and 500 MW capacities and will also provide its customers monitoring solutions for the units.

AES to unveil power electronics factory in India

AES Power Solutions, manufacturer of power electronic systems and solutions for industrial power supplies and renewable energies, will unveil its power electronic factory here tomorrow. 

 
The 80,000 sq ft factory, its first in India and located on the Bangalore-Mysore highway, will produce the company's two successful solar inverter series PV 250 and PV 500. The facility has a capacity to manufacture products generating 400 MW per year.

Moser Baer Clean Energy Limited commissions largest solar power capacity

AHMEDABAD: Moser Baer Clean Energy Limited (MBCEL) commissioned Asia's largest solar farm in Banaskantha district of Gujarat. The 30 MW solar farm has been set up using 2,36,000 Thin Film modules with an approximate investment of Rs 465 crore. The power will be evacuated through 2 separate 66 KV lines to Sub-Stations at Anganwada and Dunawada.

India leads world in building efficiency: Survey

The third annual global Energy Efficiency Indicator (EEI) shows that building owners and operators throughout India continue to say they place higher importance on energy management in comparison to their peers in other major countries.

Scrap cars made before 1996, Siam tells govt

 Faced with crippling slowdown and rising vehicle pollution, apex auto industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) has suggested to government that all private cars made before 1996 should be scrapped to boost demand for new vehicles and push sales of environmentconscious vehicles.

Suzlon Energy bags order from Sri Lankan company

Suzlon Energy on Tuesday said it has received an order from Sri Lankan group Senok to supply wind turbine generators. 

However, the financial details were not disclosed. The order from Senok is for supplying ten units of S88 - 2.1 MW wind turbine generators, aggregating 21 MW capacity. 

"The project will be commissioned in two phases and complete by May 2012," Suzlon said in a statement. 

Earlier, Suzlon had done 10 MW wind project for Senok. The new 21 MW project would come up alongside the existing one in the Puttalm district of Sri Lanka.
