On track to add 10,500 MW solar power: Piyush Goyal

India will definitely achieve the target for enhancing solar power capacity and add 10,500 MW in the current fiscal, New & Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday.

India has set an ambitious target of adding one lakh MW of solar power generation capacity by 2022 which is five times more than the earlier target of 20,000 MW under National Solar Mission.

Solar roof-top unit inaugurated in Andra Pradesh

NMPT sets up solar power systems on three buildings in Mangaluru

New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has set up three roof-top solar systems that can generate 350 kW of power.

Of the three, a 250-kW roof-top solar plant has been set up on the administrative building of NMPT. Two more have been set up on guesthouse and hospital buildings of NMPT. The capacity of each of these two units is 50 kW.

Solar PV benchmark capital cost down by 75 lakh/MW

India's solar energy programme may get further boost as the benchmark capital cost norm for Solar PV projects has come down to 5.3 crore per MW for 2016-17 from Rs 6.05 crore in the previous fiscal.

This assumes significance in view of government's ambitious solar power generation capacity addition programme of 100 GW by 2022 against the backdrop of tariff for this clean source remaining below Rs 5 per unit so far in different tariff based bidding of solar power projects.

Clean energy projects get Rs. 42,000 crore investment in FY16

As much as Rs 42,000 crore was invested in renewable energy projects last fiscal with Madhya Pradesh remaining at the top with maximum inflow at Rs 8,867.34 crore, Parliament was informed today.

"Most of the investment in renewable energy came from private sector. Total estimated investment in renewable energy power projects during 2015-16 assuming an investment of Rs 6 crore per MW is around Rs 42,000 crore," New and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today.

Delhi government panel advocates alternate sites, waste-to-energy plants

Overflowing landfills should be reclaimed to make way for scientifically-designed alternates and waste-to-energy plants should be installed here, a Delhi government panel has said.

Last week, the AAP government had formed an inquiry panel to look into the recent fires at the Bhalswa and Ghazipur landfills.

Apart from the identifying the causes, the four-member committee made recommendations for mitigating the environmental and health hazards here.

Southern Railway to set up solar panels in 38 locations

In order to procure power at cheaper rates and to help reduce greenhouse gases, Southern Railway will be setting up solar panels across 38 locations in the southern zone, according to officials.

Government to procure 20 crore LED bulbs in FY'17

After distributing 10 crore LED bulbs so far under UJALA scheme, state-run EESL has planned to procure 20 crore such lights through auctions this fiscal, which can reduce the procurement price to Rs 44 per unit.

Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has already tendered for 14 crore LED bulbs under Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA), out of which almost 10 crore are distributed to consumers through power distribution and other channels like online marketplace Snapdeal.

300MW power generated at Mumbai’s first green waste recycling plant

Around 3,500 metric tonnes of garden waste have generated 300 megawatt (MW), almost a tenth of the city’s daily electricity needs, at a waste recycling plant in Ghatkopar in the past two years.

The city’s electricity demand is between 3,500MW and 3,100MW a day, according to a report by the union environment ministry and Institute of Chemical Technology, Matunga.

Filing for bankruptcy by US-based renewable energy major SunEdison poses no problem to India's robust solar energy programme of adding 100 GW capacity by 2022, said Power Minister Piyush Goyal.
