Tata Power to develop 28.8 MW solar power project

Tata Power Company (TPC), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), is developing one of its largest photovoltaic based solar power plants with an installed capacity of 28.8 MW in the Satara district in Maharashtra.
 
The plant will be spread over 130 acres of land. The latest state of the art technology in photovoltaic based solar generation will be utilized for the plant, a spokesperson said.

How Spread of Bt Cotton Contaminates the Food Chain

While hazardous GM technology was allowed to be spread more easily in cotton on the ground that it is a non-food crop, it is clear that when cattle, sheep, goats etc. feed on Bt cotton residues, then health hazards also spread to the entire food-chain.

India acts to cut airline emissions

The Airports Authority of India has implemented a series of measures to substantially reduce emissions using improved air navigation service (ANS) procedures and training.
 
The AAI paper proposes more direct air routes on 93 international and 173 domestic sectors in addition to 32 connector routes.
 
AAI also wants to implement so-called Upper Airspace Harmonisation, which  includes operating multiple sectors of Air Traffic Control from a single centre in Chennai.

India plans 'ultra mega' 4 GW solar power plant

India’s government has unveiled plans to build an “ultra mega” 4 GW solar power plant in the northwestern state of Rajasthan.

According to the Indian government, the power plant will be built on a 23,000-acre site close to Sambhar Lake, about 75 km from Jaipur, the state capital.

ADB Finances Renewable Energy Transmission System in India

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide $500 million to build a renewable energy transmission system in India. The system will deliver electricity from wind and solar power projects in Rajasthan in Northwest India to the state and national grids.

CLP India signs new pooled financing structure with banks for wind farms

CLP India has pooled cash flow of its wind projects to mitigate risks and ensure security to lenders. The company on Monday announced signing of the new pooled financing structure for its wind assets with three Standard Chartered Bank, IDBI BankBSE 1.02 % Ltd and IDFCBSE 1.64 %.

World Bank bats for dairy dung energy policy in India

The global environmental goods and services (EGS) industry has grown 10.5% since 2009 to $858 billion in revenue as of last year, according to a research report by the World Bank.

The report, that looked into the green value chains globally, has also batted for a ‘Dairy Dung-Energy’ policy in India to foster socio-economic development through increased income and bio-gas sterilisation.  It states that a proper policy in this regard could create 1.9 million additional full-time jobs .

Airports Authority of India takes major initiatives to reduce emissions

As India and several other nations oppose the EU proposal to impose carbon tax on Indian carriers flying in European airspace, the Airports Authority of India has implemented a series of measures to substantially reduce emission.

Electricity generation to grow by 5.7% in 2013-14

Total electricity generation in India is expected to grow at a healthy pace in 2013-14. In its report, Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) expects generation to grow by 5.7% in 2013-14 as compared to a 4% rise reported in 2012-13. During the year, it said that power stations in India are expected to generate 963.8 billion units of electricity and that this will be the highest electricity generation seen by the country in a single year.

Solar may have come to mean corruption in the state. But the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) is certainly not blinking, preferring to instead save money and give a boost to the much-maligned source of alternative energy.

Coal demand-supply gap to reach 185 MT by 2016-17: Jaiswal

The demand-supply gap in coal may widen to 185.5 million tonnes in 2016-17 though many measures have been taken to step up production of the dry fuel, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said Friday.

The country had to import a record 135 million tonnes (MT) of coal last year to meet domestic requirement.

"In spite of best of our best efforts, a gap in domestic supply and demand of 185.5 MT is envisaged in the terminal year 2016-17 of X11 Five-Year Plan," the Minister said at an event here.... Read more..
