Indian government softens domestic content rules for second phase of solar missionThe Indian government has signed off the first 750MW batch of tenders under the second phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission with a softening of domestic content rules. The first phase required the use of modules based on crystalline technology to be manufactured in India. Many developers opted for thin-film modules instead. India, Finland ink clean technology pact to produce ethanolIndia, on Tuesday, signed an agreement with Finland to produce indigenous ethanol to promote use of clean technologies and cut down the oil import bill. Aerial technology used to find drinking waterWater scarcity is endemic in our country. With groundwater irrigation accounting for over 60% of the total area irrigated, it's important to save this precious resource. Recognising this, the ministry of water resources has, for the first time, started a Rs 41cr pilot project to map aquifers. Carbon Markets 94% Cheaper Than Renewable Support, OECD SaysCarbon markets are about 94 percent cheaper at cutting greenhouse gases than renewable subsidies paid to power producers, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Water Desalination Capacity Climbs on Power, Energy NeedsDemand for water to generate power, energy and refining needs sparked such growth in desalination plants that 50 percent more capacity is due online this year than in 2012, according to newly published data.
