Mandatory use of recycled sewage water on the cards

The state government is likely to make it mandatory for all municipal corporations to treat and use sewage water for non-drinking purposes.

"A meeting of municipal officials across the state was called to discuss possible use of recycled sewage water. After deliberations, the government will take steps towards implementation of the plan," said a state official. He added that the state government has decided to adhere to the Union government's recent directives.

Bosch to make solar water heaters for multiple users

German industrial major Bosch India will manufacture solar water heaters and steam generators using thermo-technology for multiple users, spanning residential, commercial, industrial and institutional sectors.

"As a major supplier of water heating and comfort heating systems in the thermo-technology space, we will offer commercial, industrial, power boilers and solar water heaters to multiple segments," the Indian subsidiary said in a statement here.

In a trend-setting move, the Salar Jung Museum will be tapping solar power to meet its growing energy needs.

The gallery area of the SJM is 1.40 lakh square feet with an average power consumption of 4,851 units per day. This means an expenditure of Rs 1.43 crore per annum. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today constituted a high-level panel consisting of cabinet secretary and secretaries from various ministries and departments to assist the Prime Minister's council on climate change.

Aavishkaar Venture buys 15% stake in NEPRA

Aavishkaar Venture Fund has acquired 15% stake in Gujarat-based social enterprise, NEPRA Resource Management Pvt Ltd, involved with waste collection.

NEPRA managing director Sandeep Patel confirmed the deal and said, his company expects a Rs 100-crore turnover from dry waste by 2016. NEPRA planned a Rs 70-crore investment in the state and signed an MoU at the Vibrant Gujarat business summit earlier this month. However, he declined to divulge the details. Solar PV Demand May Rise 18 Percent This Year, Maxim Group Says

Solar photovoltaic demand may rise 18 percent to 38.2 gigawatts in 2013, led by a doubling of sales in China, Maxim Group LLC analysts Aaron Chew and Francesco Citro said today in a note to investors.

The uptick in demand, from an estimated 32.3 gigawatts in 2012, is driven by “the severe collapse in module prices since 2011,” a trend that may not reverse, the analysts wrote.

UNFCCC registers Tata Power's 25 MW solar project at Mithapur

The registration of the 25 MW solar project at Mithapur with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) allows Tata Power to trade Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) it would earn from the renewable energy project.

BHEL commissions 100 MW hydro project in Vietnam

BHEL  today said it has commissioned a 100 MW hydro power generating set in Vietnam, a development that is likely to open up more opportunities for the state-run major in the fast-growing market.

India, Spain to encourage joint R&D effort in renewable energy

 

India and Spain today agreed to enhance joint research and devlopment efforts in the field of renewable energy.

After a meeting between New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah and Spain's Minister of State for Research Development and Innovation Carmen Vela Olmo, both the countries agreed to initiate a "second call" for proposals to encourage joint research and development between research institutions as well as industry groups.

Tamil Nadu solar tender gets lowest financial bid at Rs 5.97/kwh

The lowest financial bid for Tamil Nadu's plan to set up 1000 mega watt of solar power, India's single-biggest solar tender, has come in at Rs 5.97 per kilowatt hour, experts said. However, state utility Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd will take a final decision on what will be a workable rate as the bid rate could be too low, they added.

The southern Indian state received bids for only a little less than 500 megawatts. The state has adopted the 'L1' method of bidding process, wherein bidders are asked to match the lowest bid.

Suzlon Group Wins Wind Turbine Order From Orange Renewable Power

 

Suzlon Energy Ltd. said its group bagged a 50.4 MW wind energy project contract from Orange Renewable Power. The project is scheduled for completion in FY 2012-13.

IFC is planning to provide an ‘A’ Loan of up to R41 Cr ($7.5 Mn) to Bhilwara Energy Limited to finance a part of the project being developed under SPV - LNJ Power Ventures Limited.

LNJ Power Venture is developing a 20MW wind power project in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, under the Group Captive Scheme in India.

India, EU sign pact to recycle waste water

India and the European Union have signed a Rs 80-crore (about €12-million) agreement to recycle industrial and domestic waste water to provide water for irrigation purposes.

Besides, the two sides would work on other products that come out of waste water and also on the efficient use of water under the Water4Crops-India project.

Only 35 buildings get eco-friendly status in 5 years

Only 35 out of the approximate 10,000 buildings constructed in the city in the last five years have received the status of an eco-friendly structure.

The civic body adopted the eco-housing policy in 2008 to promote environmental, economic, health and safety benefits that come with such buildings. The policy plans to educate developers, architects as well as buyers to change the city's scenario and to create awareness about such homes.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation hikes waste management budget

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to increase budgetary allocation for solid waste management in the city for 2013-14, the corporation's draft budget said.

The draft budget, involving nearly Rs 473 crore receipt and Rs 425.89 crore expenditure, was placed in the corporation meeting on Monday. BMC's budget for the 2012-13 fiscal stood at nearly Rs 452 crore.

Sugar factories fail to check air, water pollution

Despite repeated circulars and review meetings by sugar commissioner, air and water pollution by the sugar factories continue to remain unchecked in Pune division. In fact, as compared to 2011, the number of factories penalised by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) doubled in 2012.

NHPC finds Myanmar projects unfeasible

State-owned power utility NHPC Ltd has termed as unfeasible two strategic hydroelectric projects in Myanmar, potentially dampening India’s economic diplomacy initiative to engage the South-East Asian nation.

NHPC, in a detailed project report (DPR), said Myanmar’s proposed 1,200 megawatts (MW) hydroelectric project in Tamanthi is financially unviable without government support. An 880MW project in Shwezaye is technically unfeasible, it said in another report.
