Voluntary Carbon Offsetting Hits Three-Year HighThe market for voluntary carbon offsetting hit a three-year high in 2011, with transactions worth more than $576 million taking place, according to research by environmental markets information service Ecosystem Marketplace. EU carbon auction proposal to be settled by end of year: ECA European Commission proposal to temporarily withhold a volume of carbon allowances to combat an oversupply in Europe's cap-and-trade system will be completed by the end of 2012, an EC official said Thursday. Major energy savings at Solar Energy Centre in Gurgaon with solar-powered air-con systemsA series of solar air-conditioning systems have been put into operation in the Solar Energy Centre at Gual Pahari Village in Gurgaon, India, dramatically decreasing the carbon footprint of the building. Solar RECs listed on Power Exchange for first timeIn a first as many as 100 solar renewable energy certificates (RECs) were traded on the Power Exchange of India (PXIL), out of which five were bought at a price of Rs 13,000 per certificate.
