Tecpro System to buy water treatment company for INR 10 crore

Chennai based Tecpro Systems Ltd has decided to buy water treatment company Ambika Projects (India) Pvt Ltd for INR 10.3 crore.

Ambika Projects is an engineering procurement & construction company catering to and waste water treatment, and is headquartered in Chennai. It counts JSW, Vedanta, Essar and TATA as its top clients.

Tecpro in a BSE announcement said that "As the company was looking for its entry into this space for quite some time, it is expected that this acquisition would help the company in moving up the value chain.”

Power grid to build 9 transmission corridors

The Power Grid Corporation of India has undertaken the work of laying of transmission lines with 800 kv power transformers from Shillong to Agra under Central Power Grid to augment evacuation of 6000 MW of Hydel power from the north east per day.

Himachal afforestation scheme gets UN nod

India's first multi-million public afforestation scheme in Himachal Pradesh has been registered for carbon trading by the UN, an official statement said here Sunday.

 

 
"The United Nations has registered the Rs.337 crore Mid-Himalayan Watershed Development Project for carbon trading scheme under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change," the statement, quoting Chief Project Director R.K. Kapoor, said.

City's public transport projects get a push

 In a major push to the city's transport projects, including the proposed metro rail, the Parliamentary Consultative Committee (PCC) on urban development has emphasised on better transport for non-metropolitan cities, with the help of the Central government.

Target to produce addl 20 MT achieved a year in advance: Pawar

The country has achieved the target of producing an additional 20 million tonne (MT) of foodgrain under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) an year in advance, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said today. 

 
"We had set for ourselves the target of additional production of 20 million tonnes of foodgrain by the end of the 11th five year plan (2012). Harvesting rainwater mandatory in Haryana

 Chandigarh All the houses in Haryana with a floor area of 100 square yards or more will have to harness rainwater, said Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday. Stating that, rainwater has been made mandatory in state, the CM said water resources being limited masses would have to take measures to conserve it.

India Environment Panel OKs Adani, Torrent Projects

 A top panel of India's federal environment ministry has recommended giving conditional environmental clearances to Adani Power Ltd.'s 2,640 megawatts plant and Torrent Power Ltd.'s 800 MW expansion project in the western state of Gujarat.

 

The coal-based plant to be built by Adani Power Dahej Ltd., a unit of the Gautam Adani-led group, will comprise four units of 660 MW each, the ministry said on its website. The project is estimated to come up at about 147.06 billion rupees ($3.31 billion).

Solar mission: Firms tie up Rs 4,500 cr for projects of over 500 MW capacity

 Most of the companies that have won bids to put up solar power projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission have achieved financial closure.

 

The total capacity of all the projects that have confirmed financial closure exceeds 500 MW, Mr Anil Agarwal, Chief Executive Officer, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) – the nodal agency for conducting the selection process for the first stage of JNNSM – told Business Line today.

C-DAC to expand operations from Technopark

Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), a Government of India R and D organization under Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, will expand its operations from Technopark, where a building with 1,60,000 sq ft built up area would be operational within six months.

Solar energy being promoted in Manipur

 In an endeavor to promote the usage of solar energy, the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) has set a target for providing 10,000 solar water heaters under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Energy Mission.

 
The agency recently organized a one-day workshop on solar thermal system that laid stress on the need to use solar and wind energy to meet the power shortage in the region.

Carbon dating technique to aid energy from waste

 A new use for carbon dating will aid the production of energy from wood and waste, said a bio-energy group on Thursday after British regulatory approval of the new test.

Carbon dating is commonly used to estimate the age of ancient artifacts, exploiting the fact that a particular type of carbon disappears, or decays, at a fixed rate, so that the amount left behind clocks how much time has passed.

A recently adapted technique, developed by the Energy Research Center of the Netherlands, takes monthly samples of the carbon-14 in the smokestack of power plants.

Energy-efficient LED streetlights long way off

With the project of replacing ordinary streetlights with LED ones in limbo, the municipal corporation (MC) authorities are at their wits' end. In June, the Energy Efficiency Service Limited (EESL) had rejected the proposals of two agencies, out of three finalized by MC, and asked them to submit the project report again by reducing the streetlights.

Study shows forests have bigger role in slowing climate change

The world's forests can play an even greater role in fighting climate change than previously thought, scientists say in the most comprehensive study yet on how much carbon dioxide forests absorb from the air.

The study may also boost a U.N.-backed program that aims to create a global market in carbon credits from projects that protect tropical forests. If these forests are locking away more carbon than thought, such projects could become more valuable.

Sidbi ropes in BEE to promote green tech for MSMEs

The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has signed an agreement with the Bureau for Energy Efficiency (BEE) to create energy efficient technologies for the MSME sector.

Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of Indian 'coal rush'

A single Indian state is to build a new fleet of coal-power stations that could make it one of the world's top 20 emitters of carbon emissions – on a par with countries such as Spain or Poland.

The proposed coal plants in the south-eastern state of Andhra Pradesh are part of a wider Indian "coal rush" to bring power to the country's hundreds of millions living without electricity. 'Garbage mess is offshoot of civic apathy'

 People's insensitivity in dumping waste in public places and the failure of self-governing bodies to set up a solid waste management (SWM) programme needs a regimen of deterrence through fines and penalties, say garbage managers and environmentalists.
