That’s the unofficial slogan for Boston-based Promethean Power Systems, a company that this month received a grant from the National Science Foundation to further develop its innovative milk refrigeration system.

Promethean’s target market is India, though it plans to expand to Africa and Latin America as soon as February. India is the world’s largest producer and consumer of milk; the country is home to some 70 million farmers who contribute to a multibillion-dollar dairy market.

Solid-waste management project launched in Vallarpadam

The operator of the International Container Transshipment Terminal, DP World, has launched a solid-waste management and a greening programme on the vast undeveloped area contiguous to the terminal.

It is part of a comprehensive plan by the company to improve the environment around its operations on the Vallarpadam Island.

A green belt area along its 1.5-km boundary wall had already been formed and more saplings were planted by heads of various departments last World Environment Day.

The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission launched by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last year has positioned India "to become a global leader in the growth of concentrating solar power (CSP) technologies," according to a new report.

 Nearly 3000 solar lamps were distributed among young students in Assam's Jorhat district.

Govt to review 60 hydel projects in Ganga basin

The environment ministry is set to review the future of 60 hydel projects in the Ganga basin following a study done by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. The move is significant considering the BJP played up the protection of the river Ganga before Uttarakhand assembly elections nex t year and Uma Bharati, who returned to BJP last week, successfully forcing the ministry to stop construction of the Srinagar project to save a temple.

India, China to conduct study on climate change

Controversy over the dam over Brahmaputra notwithstanding, India and China would soon start a joint study of Brahmaputra-Salween and the Kangchenjunga landscapes to find out the impact of climate change on the local habitation, as desired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. While the Central government has made a commitment to make the country green with its ambitious Green India Mission in the next 10 years from 2010-2011 to 2019-2020, local forest authorities are yet to receive any directive or guideline in this regard.

 Delhi has high levels of air pollutants and ozone and the latter has harmful impact on health and agricultural yield, a study revealed on Wednesday.

Environment .CLP May Invest in First Indian Solar Project by Next Year, Director Says

CLP Holdings Ltd. (2), the biggest power supplier in Hong Kong and India’s largest owner of wind farms, may invest in its first solar project in India next year.

The Hong Kong-based company has begun collecting sun irradiation data at Indian wind farms to also evaluate the possibility of installing solar plants, Mahesh Makhija, director of renewables at CLP’s India unit, said today.

“By the end of this year, we should be in a comfortable position to pick our first sites and have an investable solar project,” Makhija said in an interview at his office in Mumbai.

Thermax is seeking to acquire a water-treatment company in Europe with annual revenue of $10 million-$100 million to expand its footprint in that market and access technology, a senior executive said.

Norway, Iceland join EU-U.S. open skies deal

Norway and Iceland joined a U.S. and European Union "open skies" deal on Tuesday amid a trans-Altantic dispute about Europe's plans to impose carbon emissions permits on all flights from 2012.

Under the deal, airlines in non-EU members Norway and Iceland will be able to fly to the United States from anywhere in the 27-nation EU rather than just from domestic airports.

And EU carriers, for instance, will be able to open routes to the United States from Oslo or Reykjavik.

Industry warns of energy crisis in State
