Ex-Im Bank to Finance Infinia, First Solar Projects in India

The U.S. Export-Import Bank will provide $49 million in financing for two solar energy projects in India that will use systems from U.S. companies.

The bank authorized a $30 million loan to Dalmiapuram, India-based project developer Dalmia Solar Power Ltd. for a 10- megawatt project using solar-thermal systems from Infinia Corp., it said yesterday in a statement.

India's Uttar Pradesh Seeks 100 Megawatts of Solar Power to Meet Target

India’s Uttar Pradesh state is seeking to buy 100 megawatts of power from solar plants to meet government-set clean energy targets.

Uttar Pradesh Power Corp., the bulk electricity supplier to the northern state’s five distribution utilities, will pay a maximum of 4.74 rupees ($0.11) a kilowatt-hour, it said in a tender notice in today’s Economic Times.

For the financial year starting today, state electricity distribution utilities are required to purchase 5 percent of their power from clean sources, 0.5 percent from solar and the remainder from wind, biomass and others,... Read more..

India Launches Black Carbon Research Initiative Under Its National Carbonaceous Aerosols Programme

India today launched the Black Carbon Research Initiative as part of the National Carbonaceous Aerosols Programme (NCAP). This is a joint initiative of several government ministries and leading research institutions. It will be headed by Prof. J Srinivasan of the Indian Institue of Science, India’s leading authority on black carbon.

An information and communication technology industry initiative started almost one-and-a-half years back for energy efficiency has finally made the government announced energy efficiency label for laptops.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on Wednesday announced BEE Star Label version 1 for laptops. The guidelines announced by BEE are based on United Sates Energy version 5 guidelines .

XL Energy has received orders valued over Rs.12.10 crores for establishment of a Solar Power Plant on turnkey / EPC basis in Haryana, India.

Vestas surprises with 7 MW offshore wind turbine

Danish wind turbine maker Vestas unveiled a new giant 7-megawatt offshore turbine on Wednesday and said it expected it to be in serial production in early 2015.

Vestas, the world's biggest wind turbine manufacturer by market share, had only been expected to unveil a 6 MW turbine, not the towering 135-meter (443 feet) 7 MW unit, with its rotor diameter of 164 meters.

The new turbine, whose rotor will trace a circle bigger than the London Eye ferris wheel and whose 80-meter blade is longer than nine London double-decker buses, is part of a push toward larger and larger... Read more..

The water budget for 2011-12 did not hold any surprises or the promise of new projects. Delhi Jal Board's primary focus will be on completion of old works and tendering of those projects that have already been announced. After a tariff hike in 2010, this year is the first time that DJB will not be seeking any subsidy from the government for its non-plan expenses. Last year, the board had been granted a subsidy of Rs 50 crore.

SAP India pays staff for green commute, Reva buyers to get car allowance

In what is perhaps a first for corporate India, SAP Labs India has unveiled a unique and generous green car policy under which employees would be able own an electric car at a subsidized cost and get an attractive allowance to own and run it.

Vestas Sees Asia Adding Wind Farms After Japan Nuclear Crisis

Vestas Wind Systems A/S, the world’s largest maker of wind turbines, said demand for wind projects may increase after Japan’s worst earthquake triggered a nuclear crisis.

Asia Pacific nations installed about 19 gigawatts of wind power including 16.7 gigawatts by China last year and this year’s additions may be higher, Sean Sutton, president of Vestas’ Asia-Pacific business, said in an interview in Singapore yesterday. Sunengy Signs Contract With Tata Power for Floating Concentrated Solar System

Indian company Tata is getting more and more involved in the renewable energy sector. After the agreement their CEO had with Daniel Nocera for producing energy from water, they now make a deal with Australia-based Sunengy, which manufactures LSAs (Liquid Solar Arrays), basically floating concentrated solar power systems (CSP).

Torrent Power Ltd., India’s fifth- largest non-state generator, is seeking to buy renewable energy to meet a government-set target for clean power.

The company intends to buy power on a long-term basis from renewable sources including wind, bagasse, biomass and small hydroelectric plants, it said in a tender notice published in today’s Economic Times.

UK slips down global green investment rankings

The UK is rapidly losing the race to be the global powerhouse of the green economy, while other countries streak ahead in low-carbon technology investment and development, according to rankings published on Tuesday.

Last year, the UK slumped from being third in the world in terms of investment in green growth, to only 13th place, , according to a report by the respected US Pew Environment Group.

This means the UK now ranks well behind developing countries such as Brazil, in sixth place, India in 10th place and China in first place.

SkyFuel's Parabolic Trough a Fit for India's Solar Mission

SkyFuel has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) regarding the use of its parabolic trough collector in concentrating solar power (CSP) projects. MEIL's bid to build, own and operate a 50MW solar thermal power plant, through its wholly owned subsidiary MEIL Green Power Limited, in Andhra Pradesh, India was selected under Phase One of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM). The JNNSM has put India in the lead of emerging CSP markets, calling for 20 million square meters of solar concentrators by 2022.

Finnish wind gear maker to set up India arm

Flying high on the growing demand for wind energy in India, Finnish wind turbine gear maker Moventas Oy is gearing up to establish an India subsidiary headquartered in Chennai.

SAIL, RINL emit more CO2 than rivals while producing steel

State-owned SAIL and RINL have emitted more carbon dioxide while producing steel than their global peers and domestic rival Tata Steel, a report by CAG has said.  "On an average, 1.9 tonne of CO2 is emitted for every tonne of steel produced globally. The average CO2 by SAIL and RINL during 2008 -09 was 2.99 tonne and 3.18 tonne respectively against the average of 2.09 tonne of CO2 emitted by Tata Steel," the report, which was tabled in Parliament recently, said.
