Govt mulls diesel subsidy for irrigation if monsoon is poor

With growing expectations of a subnormal monsoon this year, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today said his department will soon move a cabinet note to introduce a diesel subsidy scheme to provide irrigation to protect standing crops in the event of a rainfall deficit.

India will work with global community to meet the challenges of climate change, Government today said and spelt out local action plans to tackle the warming. 

The steps included conservation of Himalayan ecology, regeneration of forest and promotion of cleaner fuels to bring down carbon emission.

As many as 50 mini and micro hydel power projects have been identified in different districts of Meghalaya aimed at meeting the state's power requirements. 

"The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) have identified nine mini and micro hydel power projects with the potential of producing 13.06 MW out of which three are commissioned and one is under construction," Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said during Question Hour in the Assembly here today.

New nanoparticles for cheaper, cleaner biofuel

Heard of green diesel? That could be the fuel for your vehicle in near future.

A team including two Indian-American scientists at the US Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory has created biofuel refining technology that is faster, cleaner and cheaper. The scientists developed a nanoparticle that is able to perform two processing functions at once for the production of "green diesel". Green diesel is an alternative fuel created from the hydrogenation of oils from renewable feedstocks like algae.

BHEL commissions 520MW hydro project in Himachal Pradesh, India

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned all the four units of the 520MW Parbati III hydro electricity project (HEP) in Himachal Pradesh, India.

The company has recently commissioned the fourth and final 130MW hydro generating unit at the project while the first three units were installed in February and March 2014.

Suzlon secures 100.8MW order from ReNew Wind Power

Wind turbines manufacturer Suzlon has secured a 100.8MW order from ReNew Wind Power in India.

Delhi Metro's Phase III Stations to Have Green Buildings

The Delhi Metro said all the upcoming stations in the third phase of its expansion will be designed and constructed as green buildings with provisions for conservation of energy and water, among other things.

 NEW DELHI: Delhi is trying to draw a few lessons from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Gujarat model. Gandhinagar's rent-a-roof project may help Delhi supplement the power supply in the capital with solar energy. If the model is replicated in Delhi, according to official sources, it has the potential to deliver 50-100 MW.
