Reliance Shares Slide as Chairman Ambani Fails to Explain Gas Output Drop

Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL), India’s biggest company by market value, declined the most in more than two weeks after billionaire Chairman Mukesh Ambani failed to indicate when the company will increase natural gas production.

The shares fell 1.7 percent to 934.60 rupees at the close in Mumbai, the most since May 18.

Ramesh slams India Inc's dependence on government for innovation in green technology

Environment minister Jairam Ramesh made it clear that private corporate sector should not look up to the government for innovations in technology to transit towards green economy. Addressing Indian business leaders at the CII Conference on 'Building a Green Economy' on Friday, Ramesh said that the role of the government was to design fiscal policy and set standards.

Waste-energy plant to tackle garbage, generate power

With inefficiency in garbage disposal, the world is walking towards a dead end, said K S Siva Prasad, chairman, Bangalore Blended Fuels (Pvt) Ltd, who has designed a waste-energy plant to tackle this problem. Air pollution forecast in the offing

You will soon find out how much the air outside your homes in residential colonies, such as Janakpuri, Greater Kailash or Rohini, will impact your health. In a first for any Indian city, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), along with the Pune-based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (I ITM), will start air pollution forecast for Delhi in the next few months.

World Bank to study Delhi's waste-to-energy plant

The waste-to-energy plant coming up in Delhi has been chosen by the World Bank for a case study, an official said Friday.
 
The decision was taken at the C40 Cities Mayor's Summit, held in Sao Paulo in Brazil from May 31 to June 2, a Delhi government official said. Chief Secretary P.K. Tripathi was also present at the summit.

Ramesh slams corporates on tapping renewable energy sources

Criticising big corporates for their reluctance in tapping renewable energy sources, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh on Friday said they must change their "conservative approach" and the real job of developing green technology has to be done by the corporate sector.

US Consulate officials visit Urban Agriculture Project

A five-member delegation from the U.S. Consulate General, Hyderabad met representatives and beneficiaries of Utkal Sevak Samaj (USS) and discussed on various aspects of urban agriculture in Cuttack slums adopted by the NGO at Matamatha in Malhasahi area of neighbouring Cuttack.

Clenergen is Said to Become One of India's Largest Biomass Power Generating Companies in 2011

Clenergen India Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Clenergen Corporation (OTCQB:CRGE)(FRANKFURT:9CE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Aurobindo Agro Energy Private Limited to acquire an 8.5MW biomass power plant located in Klayarkoil, Tamilnadu. Following the acquisition Clenergen will be operating 55.3MW of power generating plants in India, with projected annual revenues of $50 million and gross earnings estimated at $12 million.

SBI Agrees to Record 14-Year Loan for T-Solar, Astonfield Plant

State Bank of India (SBIN), the nation’s largest lender, and a government trade bank will extend a record 14-year loan to a solar plant being built by Spain’s Grupo T- Solar Global SA and Astonfield Renewable Resources.

Solar grows 40% over 2010: E&Y renewable country rankings

Ernst & Young released its latest Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Indices, which rank global renewable energy markets by investment strategies/infrastructures. The indices are quarterly.

Spain's T-Solar, Astonfield in pact for setting up 200-Mw solar power projects in India

Spanish solar energy producer T-Solar has entered into the Indian solar sector by striking technical, operational and financial collaboration with Astonfield Renewable Resources to develop a solar power generation capacity of 200 Mw in four years.

Both the companies plan to invest $600 million into the venture which would see development of thin film photovoltaic (PV)-based solar projects in the country.

Sunderbans absorbs 4 cr tonnes carbon dioxide

The Sunderbans forests play a vital role in protecting the world from the adverse affects of climate change, acting as a carbon sink and absorbing more than four crore tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, a recent study has found. 

 
Having 2,118 sq km of total mangrove forest cover, the Indian Sunderbans have soaked in 4.15 crore tonnes of carbon dioxide, valued at $79 billion in the international market, researchers from the University of  Calcutta said.
