Shale gas exploration policy in next 10-15 days: Moily

India will unveil a shale gas exploration policy in next fortnight as it looks to exploit unconventional hydro-carbon resource to meet its growing energy needs.

“We will take a shale gas policy to the Cabinet (for approval) in couple of days,” Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily said at a function here organised to mark the beginning of natural gas sales from the predominantly oil-rich Rajasthan block.

The policy, based on which the Government will launch its first auction of shale gas block by 2013-end, is likely to be approved by the Cabinet in 10 to 15 days, he said.

Corporation plans to convert organic waste into biogas

The city municipal corporation is planning to convert the organic waste generated from the main vegetable markets and other sources including hotels, slaughter houses, animal shelters, community centres and marriage halls into bio energy. As per the proposal, bio gas plants will be constructed close to the Anna Aringar daily market near Saibaba Colony and at the proposed new modernised market site in Kavundampalayam, after the proposed shifting of the whole sale vegetable market. Suzlon Energy ropes in Amit Agarwal from Essar Steel as CFO

PE-backed wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy Ltd has appointed Amit Agarwal as its new CFO. Agarwal, who replaced Kirti Vagadia, will report to chairman Tulsi Tanti. Vagadia will now focus on his own role as head of finance at the Suzlon Group, which includes its wholly owned German subsidiary REpower Systems SE.

“Amit's previous role as CFO of Essar Steel, has given him rich and extremely relevant experience that I know we will now benefit from," said Tanti.

Units, not megawatts for Mahagenco's solar power

In a unique model, Mahagenco is asking solar power producers to build, operate and maintain a solar power plant, on a quasi-ownership model.

As per this model, a private developer selected would have to raise finances, and set up a solar power plant, maintain it and generate power from an asset which will remain in the state power generating company's books.

Consider separate credit limits for renewable energy projects: Govt to PSBs

With huge investments targets for renewable energy projects including solar and wind power, the government wants the public sector banks to consider separate limits to improve fund flow to this sector.

Bank loans to power sector have shown consistent growth. But banks give preference for conventional power projects than renewable energy units.

‘Only 10% of India’s dirty water is treated’

A UN report has described India’s water pollution situation as a “time-bomb” while praising social activist Anna Hazare’s village Ralegan Siddhi for using the scarce commodity in a rationale manner.

In a stinging remark on water administration in India, the report says India is able to treat just 10 % of its city sewage and industrial waste discharge, the most polluting source for rivers and water bodies.

Meghalaya plans hi-tech renewable energy policy

The Meghalaya government is contemplating a hi-tech, environment-friendly approach to counter power deficiency in the state besides contributing to the environment through its Meghalaya Renewable Energy Policy, which is on the offing.

This was informed by chief minister Mukul Sangma, who also holds the power portfolio in the state assembly. "It is time that we redesigned our approach," he said.

Even as ambitious plans of Noida and Greater Noidadiscoms to establish non-conventional energy projects are yet to take shape, NTPC-Dadri is all set to begin operations of a 5MW solar power plant by the end of this month. Rainwater harvesting likely to be mandatory for new structures in Kerala

The State Government has given an in-principle nod to a proposal requiring all new buildings and houses to mandatorily feature provisions for rainwater harvesting.

India's Karnataka State to Tender for 130 MW of Solar Projects

India’s Karnataka state plans to tender for 130 megawatts of solar power projects next month, the state electricity utility said.

Developers may submit bids for building one or more projects having three to 10 megawatts capacity, according to a tender document from state-owned Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd. Companies may submit bids for both solar photovoltaic and solar thermal projects, it said.

Use renewable sources of energy, says Abdullah

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah Wednesday called for making extensive use of renewable sources of energy to reduce the country's dependence on conventional sources.

Suzlon to raise $650 m in $ bonds to retire debt

 

As part of its debt restructuring package, the beleaguered Suzlon Energy will raise $650 million via five-year dollar-denominated bonds, backed by a consortium of lenders. The proceeds of the bond issue will be used to repay a maturing dollar loan. In January this year, the Pune-headquartered wind energy firm was able to convince bankers to allow it to recast its debt. The consortium of 19 banks had approved the R11,500-crore loan bailout package.

India to install 1300-1400 MW solar power in 2013

India is likely to see additional installation of 1300 MW to 1400 MW of solar power this year, clean energy consulting company Mercom Capital Group has said.

According to Mercom Capital Group, India installed 980 MW in 2012, slightly lower than the forecast of 1,090 MW.

Water meters for domestic consumers may cost Rs 200 less as the state government has announced that taxes on such meters will be waived.

Telcom operators seek sops for meeting green targets to power cellular towers

Telecom operators have told the government that they will not be able to achieve the 2015 target for using renewable energy to power cellular towers unless they are provided subsidy or viability funding.

At an inter-ministerial meeting with the telecom department, the operators said it would cost about Rs33,000 crore to comply with the directive to run 50% of towers in rural areas and 20% in urban areas on hybrid power by 2015. Sunpreme completes largest commercial rooftop PV installation in Punjab

Sunpreme, a solar power producer headquartered in California, US, has completed, it claims, the largest commercial rooftop PV installation in Punjab, India.

The 150kW rooftop PV array has been installed at the Guru Nanak Dev Super Speciality (GNDSS) Hospital. It is equipped with Sunpreme modules which have a double glass construction with a thin, frameless design. The system also utilises inverters supplied by German PV manufacturer SMA.
