25 firms show interest in 300 MW solar projects in PunjabAs many as 25 companies, including Tata Solar, L&T, Aditya Birla, have evinced interest in setting up 300 MW solar power projects involving an investment of Rs 3,000 crore in Punjab. Plastic waste time bomb ticking for India, SC says"We are sitting on a plastic time bomb," the Supreme Court said on Wednesday after the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) informed it that India generates 56 lakhtonnes of plastic waste annually, with Delhi accounting for a staggering 689.5 tonnes a day. "Total plastic waste which is collected and recycled in the country is estimated to be 9,205 tonnes per day (approximately 60% of total plastic waste) and 6,137 tonnes remain uncollected and littered," the CPCB said. Punjab invites bids for 300 MW solar power projectsThe Punjab government on Tuesday invited bids for setting up 300 MW solar power projects at various locations in the state. A pre-bid conference in this regard will held tomorrow, a spokesperson of the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) said, adding the projects for 300 MW photovoltaic (MWp) power would be set up under build-own-operate (BOO) basis. Ethanol makers to get a boost with compulsory fuel blendingA government initiative to promote the blending of ethanol with petrol to reduce the country’s dependence on hydrocarbons is getting a slow start although implementation is just months away and the policy received a further push in January this year.
Ethanol producers are preparing to take advantage of oil marketing companies being required to sell petrol blended with 5% ethanol across the country from 1 July. The January notification said that by 2017, every litre of petrol should be blended with 20% of ethanol.
