Welspun Energy outlines $2.72bn investment for renewable power generation in India

The company, as part of the plan, is expected to install 1,750MW renewable power generating assets over the next three years.

Welspun borrowed INR 8.85bn ($161m) from a group of banks led by Central Bank of India in non-recourse financing to fund the development plans, reported Live Mint.

The company will invest INR30bn ($0.54bn) in solar and wind projects for the year 2013, with a development pipeline of 200MW.

Wind power association seeks support for small-scale investors

The Indian Wind Power Association has appealed to the Union Government to extend the investment allowance, announced in the Union Budget this year, to micro, small and medium-scale wind energy projects that are less than Rs. 100 crore.

Association president K. Kasthurirangaian has said in a release that the minimum investment ceiling of Rs. 100 crore should be removed so that all the wind mill investors benefited from the scheme. Over 50,000 jobs created by renewable energy sector in last three years

The new and renewable energy sector is estimated to have created over 50,000 direct jobs in the last three years. The job creation has taken place in off-grid and other applications of the sector, according to information made available by the ministry of new and renewable energy.

Need holistic perspective to resolve water disputes: PM

Viewing water management as a major challenge amid inter-state disputes, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said a national water framework law would be in place soon.

'Gadgets must certify how efficiently they use water'

The CEO of Delhi Jal Board, Debashree Mukherjee, on Monday said she would be pushing for a star-rating of appliances based on their water consumption, in the way appliances are rated for their energy efficiency.

"At present, I have no idea how much water is consumed by an appliance, say a washing machine. If it is rated on its efficiency, I will be able to pick up a product which uses less water and help in conserving the resource. Appliances are star-rated for their use of power, and water should also be incorporated in it," said Mukherjee.

First carbon credits for Okhla plant

South Delhi Municipal Corporation's composting plant in Okhla has become the first to get carbon credits from United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in the country. The civic agency has been given an advance of Rs 25 lakh against net Carbon Emission Reduction (CER) earning from the plant.

AP receives lowest solar bid offer of Rs 6.52/unit

The bidding process for setting up grid-connected solar power farms in Andhra Pradesh enters a crucial phase with the opening up of the price bids.

According to sources, the lowest quote was by Essel Mining and Industries Ltd, a company promoted by Aditya Birla Group, at Rs 6.52 per unit.

The average range quoted for one unit varied from Rs 7 to close to Rs 9 a unit.

Odisha comes up with another 25 MW solar tender

The Odisha government has come up with yet another tender for the purchase of solar power. Just like the existing practice, the state government wants a developer to put up a 25 MW plant and sell power to the state’s electricity distribution company at rates arrived at through a competitive bidding process.

The winning tariffs arrived at under the previous two bids were Rs 7 and Rs 7.28 per kWhr. However, in the first case, only 5 MW was finally allotted to the winning bidder.

181 solar bids pass technical qualification

As many as 181 bidders have qualified the technical round for setting up solar power projects in the state, according to a list put out by the state power utility APTransco. However, the successful bidders will be known only by tomorrow as the power utility is still compiling the list of the lowest bids after opening the price bids Tuesday morning.

Only three bidders failed to qualify on technical grounds while another three were allowed to take part in the process as per the court directions, it said.

Kakkad water to flush out salinity threat to National Thermal Power Corporation

The National Thermal Power Corporation's warning that it will be compelled to shut down its Kayamkulam plant bore fruit as the major irrigation department started pumping water from Kakkad dam to the Achankovil River.

The NTPC had on Monday said it would down shutters in three days due to the non-availability of clean water. The high salinity level in Achankovil waters had threated the functioning of the plant.

Welspun Energy ties up funds for M.P. solar project

Welspun Energy, India’s biggest developer of solar projects today said it has tied up funds for its 130 megawatt (MW) solar project in Madhya Pradesh.

The company said it has arranged Rs 885 crore from a banking consortium led by the Central Bank of India. The project located in Mindshare district of Madhya Pradesh will start generating power by May 2014.

The 130 MW project is the largest solar project in the country.

Welspun Energy Ltd (WEL), which outbid 12 others to get the project, had agreed to sell power at Rs 8.05 per unit.

Govt sets target of producing 15,000MW of wind power till 2017

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has set a target of generating 15,000 Mega Watt of wind power during the 12th Plan period.

In a statement released here, the Ministry said the capital expenditure for setting up one MW wind power project is approximately Rs six crore.

A total capacity of 18,551 MW from wind energy has already been established which is around 9 per cent of the total installed power capacity in the country, it added.

BS Enviro acquires 51% in Skywater India

BS Enviro Solutions Limited, a newly-incorporated subsidiary of Hyderabad-based telecom infrastructure company BS Limited, has acquired a 51 per cent stake in air-to-water generators’ manufacturer Skywater India Private Limited.

As a top up on its ambitious target of establishing additional 4000MW hydropower producing projects by 2015, tiny Himalayan state Sikkim is going to ask for higher percentage of free share of the power output from these projects to ensure high amount of additional gain.

Indian solar power producer Kiran Energy has commissioned a 55MW plant in the Rawra village of the state of Rajasthan.

The projects was implemented under the Phase I of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission and enhances the company's portfolio to 80MW.

India’s first viability-gap funded, 99-km power transmission line project, in Haryana, was inaugurated on Monday. The 400 KV double circuit Jharli-Kabulpur-Rohtak line was built by a joint venture of Kalpataru Power Transmission and Techno Electric and Engineering Company.

Morgan Stanley-Backed Continuum Gets Loan for India Wind Farm

Continuum Wind Energy, backed by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners LP, received a 9-billion rupee ($164 million) loan from banks for a wind farm in India.

The lenders led by the State Bank of India (SBIN) issued letters of credit to the local unit of Vestas Wind Systems A/S (VWS), Continuum’s Chief Executive Officer Arvind Bansal said in an interview. The wind farm operator has placed orders for 40 wind turbines with Vestas.
